MLB Report: Indians Designate Lowe for Assignment

Derek Lowe has pitched himself out of the Indians’ rotation and off the team. Following Wednesday night’s loss to the Royals, the Indians designated Lowe for assignment. Being called up to join the rotation is Corey Kluber.

Lowe started the season strong, but has had a brutal two months. Tuesday’s poor outing was apparently the last straw

“Lowe — acquired in an offseason trade with the Braves — has gone 8-10 with a 5.52 ERA in 21 outings for the Indians this season. Since going 6-1 with a 2.05 ERA in his first eight turns of the year, Lowe has gone 2-9 with an 8.28 ERA, allowing 61 earned runs on 97 hits with 28 walks and 28 strikeouts in 66 1/3 innings.”

It seems unlikely that a pitcher with Lowe’s career would accept a demotion to Columbus as opposed to retiring.

If I were Derek Lowe, I would just retire. Given that Lowe has little, if anything to offer; maybe a bullpen role for a team like LA. While the Indians are at it, they should cut ties with Accardo (next to go when Hernandez returns), Damon, Kotchman, Hannahan, and Hafner between now and November. Bringing in Soriano from the Cubs would be a decent 2 year fix for LF/DH, even if cheap Dolans have to eat that salary.

Wow, just Accardo, Damon, Kotchman, Hannahan and Hafner, huh? Yeah, you’re not going overboard or anything.

I was ok with the idea of Soriano for two months. But I could not stomach him for a full season….let alone two.

I get it….he hits 20+ HRs and he is right-handed….but there has to be a better solution….right?

Anyone know why Tim Fedroff, who appears to be tearing the cover off the ball in AAA is never mentioned when bringing up minor leaguers? He has been playing left, and it appears that there is no downside to seeing if he can hit major league pitching. There is no longer any reason for Damon to remain on the club. I don’t think Dee P is going overboard, sinc ethis year is over, and we need to see which of our young players might show us something in th enext 2 months. We should keep tthe core intact, but jettison all others.

Lowe blow – thanks for the memories!

Accardo is most likely cut to make room for Hernandez. As for Damon,Kotchman, Hannahan, Hafner, and Sizemore; we just don’t re-sign them. Pretty sure the sauce helped get it a bit outlandish.

There might be, but how many of them are on the market as potential trade bait with at least a year of control? Then again, Brantley can play LF next year with Carrera in CF. This would further the fuel to have that RH power bat at 1B and DH (Chis would be at 3B). Think Torii Hunter is a FA, maybe we can sign him?
