Former Indian Jeff Kent Part of Next CBS Survivor Cast

In 1996, the Indians traded fan favorites Carlos Baerga and Alvaro Espinoza to the New York Mets for Jeff Kent and Jose Vizcaino. Kent, who hit 377 career home runs did not hit a single one in Cleveland in his 39 regular season games, nor his 4 games in the division series.

He was then traded in November to the Giants as part of a package for Matt Williams. Kent would later win an MVP with the Giants and finish in the top ten of the voting four more times.

He is adding a new game to his resume– Survivor.

“Reason for being on “Survivor”: To challenge my talents and survival skills under isolated circumstances, and to prove to my family that being resilient pays off.

Why you think you’ll win “Survivor”: With my survival skills and instincts, living on an island for 39 days will be easy. Utilizing the other survivors in alliances and/or challenges will take skills that I’ve mastered throughout my baseball career. Motivating and manipulating people is what I did best in the locker room and on the field.

If you could have three things on the island, what would they be and why?

• A lounge chair to lounge in and sleep in.

• My iPod to motivate me and tune things out.

• A pillow to put my most valuable body part on a soft spot.”

Kent will be one of two ‘celebrity’ contestants. The other is Lisa Whelchel, who you may know as Blair from the Facts of Life.

I still hold a grudge my man CB was traded for Kent. At least they flipped Kent for Williams although Kent went on to outdo Williams by alot. Go figure.

Alvaro Espinoza was a fan favorite??

  • mgbode

the man played baseball with glasses on. not goggles but glasses. if that doesn’t earn your respect, then I don’t know what will 🙂

  • mgbode

survivor would be more interesting if Barry Bonds got to be there too

  • The_Real_Shamrock

That may be but he’s no Brent Lillibridge! Lilly in ’13!!!

  • mgbode

I am 100% in favor of Lillibridge being on Survivor in 2013. Especially if taping it conflicts with the MLB schedule.

  • The_Real_Shamrock

And you call yourself an Indians fan! Long live Lillibridge.

Jeff Kent would be a nobody if he didn’t have Bonds hitting in front of him or behind him. Think about it Bonds hitting behind him he saw alot pitches down the middle of the plate, so that they wouldn’t have to face bonds and when Bonds hit in front of him Bonds lead the leauge in Base on balls every year and no one was near him. Oh by the way i’m a Brewer Fan in Packer Country. I call then as I see them.

the indians suck now and always

  • Ben Mackey

You can’t be serious. You’re saying that if it wasn’t for Bonds, Kent wouldn’t be anything? That’s absurd and just dumb. That was the whole reason they brought him in. They wanted to beef the line-up more and give Bonds protection. Jeff Kent was a stud far beyond he when he went to SF. He’s a very good ball player…. without Bonds!
