Browns News: Trent Richardson Still Not At Practice; Weeden to Sit Out Game

The twitter brigade in Berea kept us informed today that rookie RB Trent Richardson was not on the practice field again, and that QB Brandon Weeden isn’t expected to play at all on Thursday.

Not sure that Richardson would have gotten much accomplished today, as the team prepares for their final preseason game against the Bears. The Browns say he is “on target” to play in the opener.

Other news from Berea today was that Brandon Weeden will not play in the final preseason game.

“Starting quarterback Brandon Weeden won’t play in the Browns’ preseason finale Thursday night against the Chicago Bears, coach Pat Shurmur said this afternoon during his post-practice news conference. Colt McCoy will start, and fellow quarterbacks Seneca Wallace and Thaddeus Lewis also will play, Shurmur said.”

Not that anyone expected him to play much, but it could be argued the first unit could certainly use some work.

Not letting Weeden play just a couple of series to keep sharp I do not understand.

Sort of bummed about Weeden. I feel it’d be nice for him to throw at least 1 touchdown before the season. A good karma thing.

Weeden should play the entire 1st half. He needs reps at NFL speed. I hate these jokers.

    keep….?

knew that was coming. Meant exhibition game speed and contact v. practice speed and non-contact. Better than jumping from practice to regular season NFL game speed he hasn’t experienced. He’s 28, don’t protect him, he’s on the clock. Play the man.

Because he did so well with ball control and handling the rush in the last game? He’s a rookie he needs reps.

This decision I don’t really get. Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers you sit. Guys that need every rep possible you play at least 1 qtr.

He absolutely needs the reps! Colt looks ready if Weeden would get nicked up anyway… Same crappy decisions by this organizarion, just different year.

I get the side of the argument that most have saying Weeden should play…but…I also understand sitting him. While he needs reps – he needs them against full-speed NFL players. Playing the first quarter, or first half against the Bears backups will not help him as much as we make it sound. Weeden is going to look back on this year and say that he learned a lot during the regular season, not the preseason, and especially not the fourth game of the preseason. While I’d prefer that he play this week, I also like the fact that he will be for sure healthy come opening day….and that is when the real learning begins for him.
