The artist formerly known as Fausto Carmona, Roberto Hernandez, is wasting no time getting himself ready for action.
The Indians announced today that Hernandez will be making his season debut for Class A Lake County this Thursday as the Captains take on the West Michigan White Caps. Hernandez pitched his first bullpen side session yesterday in front of Manager Manny Acta and pitching coach Scott Radinsky and made quite an impression on the Tribe coaches.
“Very good, very smooth,” Acta said. “Granted, it was just a bullpen, but it was nice to see. It does look like he’s been pitching.”
Added Radinsky: “It was good. Actually, it was really good. Everything came out free and easy.
All reports are that Hernandez is in great shape and should have no problems returning to the rotation when his three-week suspension is lifted in the middle of August. He is allowed to make “rehab starts” in the minors during the suspension.
Essentially, Roberto could be the starting pitcher addition that the Tribe would be looking for at the trade deadline.
