As a team hopeful for playing past 162 games this season, this was a game you absolutely could not lose. But, the Indians did just as their two All-Stars starred in this meltdown, blowing a 5-0 lead to lose 7-6 in the final game of a four game series heading into the All-Star break. The Indians got a fantastic start from Zach McAllister, but he was betrayed by his defense, in particular Asdrubal Cabrera who made two poor defensive plays that allowed four unearned runs to follow in the sixth. The Indians clung to a 5-4 lead after appearances from Joe Smith, Tony Sipp, and Vinnie Pestano. Chris Perez came out looking for his 25th straight save, but he was denied thanks to a Will Rhymes homer, Carlos Pena RBI triple, and Ben Zobrist RBI single. The Indians got two on in the bottom of the ninth, but were unable to get a run across to keep the game going. The Tribe heads into the break at 44-41 and their two All-Stars head into Kansas City for Tuesday night on a down note.

Was this our fault too Perez?
Go ahead and give my comment a thumbs down too hahaha
Tough loss, but after the Houston and New York disasters , if you would have told me we’d take 7 of 11 from Balt, Ana, and TB I’d take it. I like our chances.
Couldn’t agree more…but this one still hurts.
I agree with your comment overall….but man this one hurts. A 5-0 lead – with our bullpen needs to be a win. We finally get a break that the Sox lose and we can’t capitalize. It’s games like this that you look back on in October when you missed the playoffs by a couple games. But you’re right – a nice stretch overall going into the break.
I was thinking the same thing. He’s been lights out between opening day and now, but he had to be. When you make edgy comments and point fingers at other people, you better have yourself near perfect. He wasn’t today by any means and deserves any criticism that comes his way.
”

Probably a little over the top, no?…3 game gap with 80 to play? Including several division series left?
Still, Pez really knows how to pick ’em.
As soon as Cabrera dropped that throw to make it two botched plays in a row, I thought, Uh-oh, this is how you lose a game you’ve already won. You could hear it in Tom Hamilton’s voice too.
As for Perez, he was due for a blown save. I can’t get down too hard on him.
Tough loss esp if it comes down to a game at the end.
losers
I just wanted to note that Manny Acta successfully had a bad umpiring call overturned.
When’s the last time you’ve heard of THAT happening?
Any other player – yes I agree give them a break for being clutch most of the time. But Perez? No. His comments and criticism of the fan base means he better be perfect. When he screws up he deserves criticism right back. He wanted to sound off and wanted all the eyes on him – when you do that you have to deliver every time….when you don’t, you look foolish. He looks foolish today.
agreed on perez. (although it is alarming how hit-able perez is when he’s off. hope this outing doesn’t take him away from first pitch strikes which he’s been very good at during his streak.)
