While We’re Waiting… Trent Richardson’s fantasy potential, Jordan Hall’s Injury, Remembering Paul Sorrento, and Warming up to Waiters
July 1, 2012Who Should the Cavs Target in Free Agency?
July 1, 2012The NBA free agent period began early Sunday morning and Fox Sports reporter Sam Amico tweeted this late night nugget:
Raptors SF Sonny Weems said to be drawing interest from Cavs. Weems a restricted free agent.

Weems, 25 years old, is 6-6 small forward who last played in the NBA during the 2010-11, when he averaged 9.2 ppg and 2.6 rpg in 24 minutes for the Toronto Rapters. Due to last summer’s lockout, Weems spent the 2011-12 season in Europe playing for B.C. Zalgiris, a Lithuanian team.

He can dunk, but can he shoot? Looks like another Eyenga to me.
This team isn’t being built to shoot. Run, attack, slash and defense. Shooters go cold no matter how great they are. Todays NBA is getting to the rim with althetisicm for the highest percentage shot possible.
Jamario Moon Jr, I’d pass. I use this guy when I need to fill out my NBA2K rosters, lol.
still need shooters or the paint will get packed, but I agree that is how we are building this team. Weems is not a bad backup SF prospect to sign.
Sorry, wasn’t trying to say that you can build a te without shooters. They are obviously still a need to spread the floor and keep defenders honest. The majority of shots though coming from the highest percentage possible with your shooters as threats to pull up is ideal.
I don’t see this guy in any other light than an Alonzo Gee contingency plan. With Casspi and Boobie being our “shooters” on the floor next year, I don’t see the need to have two slashing SF’s.
And Gee can hit some shots, so contingency plan.
Yep… doubt the Heat win their title without Battier and Miller catching fire from the 3-point line. The Celtics were able to stay in that series with the Heat because they packed the lane and the Heat shooters didn’t make them pay for it.
On the flip side the Heat completely changed their game from last years finals in which LeBron and Wade settled for jumpers or forced a kick out versus this year when they remained in attack mode.
He’s been a prospect for a few years only reason to sign him would be depth otherwise IMO he’s not worth it. If they do sign him I hope it’s just a 1 year deal.
Right, I thought that was the other component to this year’s title run for the Heat was that Wade and LBJ especially attacked the basket. Although I do disagree a bit in that I don’t think LBJ and Wade stopped looking for the kickouts… they did that a lot and with good success. What they stopped was forcing up iso jumpshots, trying to show up the shooters on the other teams.
he’s obviously a depth signing. i mean, if he somehow progresses and passes up Gee, then great. but, he would be signed to be a backup, not a starter.
Gee better be a whole lot better Weems isn’t anything special. One year deal okay.
