Kent State One Win Away from Super Regionals
June 3, 2012Box Score: Indians 3, Twins 6
June 3, 2012And let the NBA rumor season begin. In his Sunday column, The Morning Journal’s Bob Finnan speculates that one Cavs starter could be the target of some Western intrigue this summer:
Cavs forward Alonzo Gee might draw some serious interest this summer in free agency. The Suns could make a lucrative offer to Gee. One source said they could offer Gee a four-year, $16 million offer and hope that the Cavs don’t match it.
Gee was a nice contributor last year for the Cavs, but long term, he is just a role player for the squad. That $4 million price tag is a bit much, and it’s odd that a team like the Suns would again be in the market for a role player like Gee. It will be interesting to see if the Cavs also draft at Gee’s position in three weeks, a point that Matt Moore made over at Pro Basketball Talk today as well.

4/16 isnt that bad, really if he hasnt maxed his skills and he’s a 1st 2/3 off your bench.
yeah, if we feel he’s that top wing off the bench, I don’t see anyway such an offer would preclude us from matching.
i’m sure we’d prefer a 3yr deal, but hey, he could end up being a bargain long-term if he continues to improve.
If they paid Gibson they can and should definitely pay Gee. They can’t afford to let one of the very few producing athletes on the roster leave, not now.
@bridgecrosser The question “is”, has he maxed his skills… he’s great off of the bench, but I definitely HOPE that we don’t make any crazy moves. We are in a great position thus far.
I was really hoping teams would start using the new CBA as a time to set a precedent that 3 years is what you give middle of the road role players. If the Cavs see him as a real starter or 6th man playing near starter minutes, then yeah give him a 4th year. If he is being groomed to play 20 minutes a night, then offer 3 and accept that he could walk.
No way they don’t match on Gee. How soon we forget that Damon Jones was signed for 4 years 16.1 million.
And how’d that work out for them?
