June 2, 2012Some odd news coming out of central Ohio today, as it appears that the Buckeyes No. 1 tight end was arrested earlier this morning. The incident took place in tiny Shawnee Hills near the Columbus Zoo, and here’s what 10TV in Columbus has as its report for now:
Ohio State senior tight end Jake Stoneburner was arrested on Saturday and was charged with obstructing official business.
According to the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Stoneburner, 22, was arrested sometime on Saturday by the Shawnee Hills police.
The circumstances of his arrest were not immediately released.
OSU’s The Lantern also has a story on this, but there are very few additional details there as well, just the time of arrest and that he posted bond. Stoneburner is projected to have a larger role in Urban Meyer’s offense, which traditionally promotes more play by its athletic tight ends. We’ll let you know if any more details ever surface from this odd story.

Purely just a guess, but my money is on a high school buddy getting in trouble at a memorial tournament party (very close to the zoo and Dublin which is where he’s from) and him trying to stop the cops from doing anything by trying to intervene. From all reports the kid is a good kid from a good family and from experience, the Dublin cops are pricks (something’s gotta pay for re-paving the streets every two years and watering roadside bushes once a week.
I think 11W is reporting that he was urinating in public. He ran from the police, then.

What he was charged with basically states that he did not cooperate with police during some sort of police business. This charge is normally laid on people who do not answer questions during and investigation when the police know that the people know the answer, as in “Where is you roommate Jimmy?” “I Don’t know” then Jimmy runs out the back door. It could be used if Stoneburner ran from the police after being caught pissin in an ally, but it would make more sense for him to be charged with public urination (or indecency) and evading police. His charge leads me to believe that he didn’t run and wouldn’t cooperate with the cops when asked questions.
