Ohio State Wins ESPN’s Lawsuit Over Public Records
June 19, 2012Anti-LeBron sentiment being exploited in political battle against Josh Mandel
June 19, 2012Hoopsworld’s Alex Kennedy has spoken to team executives who believe that the Cavaliers will draft Florida’s Bradley Beal if he is still available when Cleveland selects at number four-
“There’s no way Beal slips out of the top four,” said one league source. The Cleveland Cavaliers will draft him if he’s available at four.”
This really isn’t news, however another tweet from Kennedy about Beal is interesting-
“Executives are falling in love with Bradley Beal. Teams are trying to trade into the top four to select Beal, according to multiple sources.”
The Bobcats were reported to be shopping the second pick, but do these teams value Beal over Kidd-Gilchrist or Thomas Robinson? It’s a high price to pay for the second pick. The Wizards have maintained all along that they are holding onto the third pick. It appears that anyone trying to trade into the top four would have to do so with Charlotte or Cleveland.

We are in a good position because 1 of these 4 players is worthy of this pick. No reason to move up but hopefully portland falls in love with one of these guys and gives us their 6 and 11 for our 4 and 34.
I would take that deal. Seems doable too.
I agree 1000% there are three studs (Gilchrist, Beal and Robinson) who would all be worthy of the #4 selection. The trading down part will be interesting to watch and see if Grant has an interest in it. Personally if I was Grant I’d wait as long as possible perhaps even until I see what happens at #2 with Charlotte before pulling the trigger. It’d be horrible if he moved down two spots only to have Gilchrist be available at #4.
Dislike new interface.
I fail to see the logic of trading down. I mean, if Beal is their target at 4, why would they trade the pick that they would select him with? If Beal is their target, why would they want to accept a lesser player? I don’t get that logic at all. They have enough assets to trade up if they want to…..
we agree on this one. i don’t want to move up, but if Portland comes calling waving those 2 picks, I would seriously consider it. all depends on how much separation Grant has between his #4 and #6 prospect (assuming the draft goes to his board to that point even)

It’s tough to say exactly where Grant ranks the players. If Grant has Beal and Barnes graded out basically the same (and is blowing smoke about the Beal love), why not trade back to get the guy who you think is just as good, pick up another good pick and let everyone else give their assets up for Beal.
Of course all this depends on what Grant’s big board actually looks like, which despite the constant supposed “leaks”, none of us have any clue about.
ding, ding. winner!
also, the reasons many of us had Barnes (and J.Lamb) above Beal all year are still true: taller, can still move to SG (especially with him showing off his athleticism), great mechanics on his shot, more proven from long-range, also had a great NCAA tourney his freshman year, great pedigree (been a top prospect for a long time and not enough dents found in the armour to knock him down)
Beal moved ahead for alot of us (inched above on my personal list) because he showed how aggressive he could be, how he had a better handle, was willing/able to get to the paint, is stout/strong and able to defend bigger guys because of it, and turned his game up for the NCAA tourney.
interesting times we have the next week.
I’m 100% with you on Beal vs Barnes. The athleticism thing actually kinda worries me. How can we be surprised that he was one of the most athletic guys in the draft? What good is athleticism you see in the gym, but not on tape?
I actually favor moving up for MKG (depending on the price). I think we’d be a defensive terror with him, Andy and TT on the floor and could still possibly buy that 10 pick from NO to get some scoring (Lamb or Rivers).
Of course it doesn’t matter what I think, if Grant likes Barnes or T-Rob more than Beal… he’s the guy that get’s paid the big bucks.
i don’t like moving up for MKG because i think we’ll get more ‘value’ in moving up from 24 (difference between 24 and say 14 vs. Beal/Barnes and MKG).
Barnes always comes across ‘smooth’ on tape. you get he’s an athlete but it’s always a very fluid motion. sort of like watching Durant vs. LeBron (who’s more the violent athlete like MKG). now, those are both likely beyond their ceilings, but I think the type of athleticism is apt.
Yea, I see what you are saying. The value thing is a tough one, and a lot of it depends on “how good” we think who is. I loooove the 5-tool Iggy type players in the NBA (I also love mixing sports metaphors…), and see MKG as that kind of guy.
Good point on the smooth vs violent athletic thing, it makes a lot of sense. I guess with Barnes athletic superiority I would have liked more aggression around the basket. Then again, maybe we’ve just had longer to talk ourselves out of him. Who knows what weaknesses would be more obvious for Beal or MKG a year from now…
i agree. G-Force is the guy I always wanted to pair up with LeBron when he was here. Those 2 on the wings would have been ridiculous (of course, once LeBron leaves is when G-Force starts to get passed around the NBA like Penny Lane)
