Indians Take High School Pitcher Mitchell Brown With Their Second Round Pick

A day after drafting OF Tyler Naquin from Texas A&M with their first round pick, The Indians have gone for a pitcher. In the second round, #79 overall, the Tribe has selected Right-handed starter Mitchell Brown from Rochester, Minnesota. The hard-throwing high school senior was “widely regarded as the top prep player in the state” according to the Indians Twitter account.

Brown was a consensus top 50 player who fell to the Indians at #79. A great value pick in the second round. Their next pick will be #110 (third round).

Like this pick.  He’s a 6’1″ right-hander and given the way scouts hate “short” right-handed pitchers he must have some really, really good stuff to be in most scouts’ Top 50 (of course, he’s out of high school so he has room to grow).  Good upside guy to go along with the safer Naquin in the 1st round.  Here’s hoping he and Dillon Howard are at the front of the Tribe rotation in…oh, let’s say 2018.
