June 14, 2012One of the greatest Browns in history continues to be a topic of conversation as Mike Holmgren talked a bit about Jim Brown during his press conference today. Despite Brown’s continued criticisms of Randy Lerner and his comments about Trent Richardson, Holmgren was mostly complimentary.
“How the Browns view Jim Brown hasn’t changed and will never change,” Holmgren said after talking about Brown being one of his football heroes. At the same time, Holmgren seems to understand a bit of the animosity saying, “I can see where Jim would be upset with me with his role change.” This, of course, refers to Holmgren deciding to discontinue Jim Brown’s club consulting duties.
At the end of the day, the Browns might just be paying lip service, but Holmgren indicates they’d like nothing more than Jim Brown to be associated with the team as one of its greatest players.
Holmgren finished, “I’d like Jim Brown to come and be a part of this. I’d welcome him with open arms.”

perfect quote.
A gentle way of saying, “You were a great player and I’d love to chat with you – and Ernie and Clarence, too – at publicity events. But not in my office and not in our meetings and not in our film room when we’re doing our jobs. I have no idea what anyone before me was thinking since you’re not a scout, you’re not a coach. Maybe it was a little warm fuzzy by Randy for the fans and a little money for you, but Randy doesn’t quite get the inflated athlete ego, and if he suspected you were deluded enough to think we need your blowhard opinions he wouldn’t have offered.”
I never realized how high maintenance Jim Brown is. He must be confused and thinks the team was named after him. He has ruined it for himself. He should be treated with a level of respect though but why didn’t he call out Randy Lerner for the last 10 years when he has stunk up the joint. He was getting a check so he doesn’t really care about the Browns he cares about getting paid which doesn’t make him a horrible person it just makes him human.
I actually chuckled when I read that. Nice paraphrase!
Brown did call out lerner, he said something like you have to worry when your owner is in England. But I don’t think Brown cares about being paid, rather he wants to be worshipped and he views the firing by Holmgren as a huge slap in the face.
