Browns’ strength coach- Richardson is “Country Boy Strong”

Steve Doerschuk interviewed Cleveland’s head strength and conditioning coach Kent Johnston. In the interview, he discussed third round pick Trent Richardson-

“You know that old term, country-boy strong? He is country-boy strong,” Johnston said. “Trent’s the type of guy who, if he never touched a weight, he’d be a strong man. But he has really enhanced that by the work he put in at Alabama.

“And what we want to do … he has a strength and power ratio right now that can allow him to be elite, physically. I want him to maintain that, and I would like to work on things that can help him stay durable.”

Most draft picks coming out of college need to add strength to match the NFL game. Another reason to be excited about the Richardson era beginning.

Uhhh…Trent Richardson was not a third round pick.  He was the third pick in the first round.  I’m sure that’s what you meant to say!

I think I am getting more and more excited about this kid every time i read something.  As this story is related to my profession I am doubly excited.

Yea but can he line dance? 😉

I wonder if Johnston said the same thing about Phil Taylor right before he ripped a pectoral muscle doing something that a competent S&C coach should have easily been able to prevent.

Every time I read something about this kid’s power, I’m reminded of the Grantland writers’ serious discussion of the scenario “If Trent Richardson ran at full speed into a horse, would the horse survive?”

see, even the strength and conditioning coach knows how to talk straight to the fans, and not be a total moron like the so-called head coach who is such a loser idiot incompetent hypocrite and also not Mangini who I still don’t understand why he was fired.

You’re right. The truth in what he said is that it sounds just like one of your posts. That’s what makes it funny.

  • I think you’re missing the point but I expected no less.  Bravo!

I am sure you are a competent strength couch porkchop. Show them how its done troll.

I am friends and former teammate of a guy who was one of their strength coaches a few years ago and I can assure you, that would never have happened on his watch. Only way a competent strength coach has that happen is if the athlete is going above in beyond when the strength coach isn’t observing.
