After an ugly Sunday blowout loss, their third straight, the Indians promptly made a series of roster moves. One of those moves included designating Dan Wheeler for assignment seemingly before the team was on the MassPike and headed to Logan Airport. Wheeler gave up five runs in the 7th inning on Sunday as the Red Sox blew it open in the series finale at Fenway. It was the last straw for Wheeler, who was Jose Jimenez-esque in his short stint with the Tribe.
The Indians waited a day to announce Wheeler’s replacement, promoting another veteran righty, Jeremy Accardo on Monday afternoon. Accardo had some success with the Clippers this season, posting a 2.76 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 16.1 innings pitched. He will be with the team in Minnesota for the opening game of their two-day series against the Twins.
