May 28, 2012Box Score: Indians 8, Royals 5
May 28, 2012As expected, the Indians unveiled a series of roster moves this afternoon. On the pitching side of things, RHP Josh Tomlin was activated from the DL and RHP Jairo Asencio, ye’ of 5.96 ERA, was designated for assignment. At the hot corner, 3B Lonnie Chisenhall was promoted back to Cleveland for the first time in 2012, and 3B Jack Hannahan (strained calf) was placed on the 15-day disabled list.
Tomlin’s return to the rotation was announced a few days ago, and he will start for the Tribe against the Royals this afternoon. Asencio likely pitched his final game in a Tribe uniform Sunday, allowing three runs to the White Sox in the blowout 12-6 loss, and will likely have a choice to accept an assignment to AAA Columbus if he passes through waivers.
Chisenhall was batting .324/.353/.541 in 28 games for the Clippers this season, with four homers and 17 RBI. He also spent about three weeks on the disabled list with a strained calf, returning just on May 19. Since his return, he had three two-hit games in a span of six contests.
Hannahan returned to the Indians lineup Saturday after missing about 10 games with a sore back. He returned for one game, and now is out for at least the next two weeks with another injury, adding to the team’s recent injury spell.
Tomlin (1-2, 4.67 ERA) will face off against Kansas City’s Nathan Adcock (0-2, 2.33 ERA) at 4:05 p.m. this afternoon.

Man….every day our lineup gets worse and worse. Lopez, Chisenhall, Carlin, and Diaz. Just pathetic. Two of them were batting sub-.250 in the minors. So yeah, losing 4 in a row sure is fun!!
yeah. our hitting was definitely the reason we got swept by the White Sox. if they only could have averaged 13runs per game we might have been able to win one of those games.
Chad Durbin sighting. Cardinals were beating the pulp out of Hansen and the first RP the Braves tried out. In trots Durbin with his 2012 5.60 ERA. So, of course, he gets a 1/2/3 inning with a SO.
Think of it like this, Cabrera, Hafner and Santana should all be back soon to boost an offense that just had a great series against Chicago. Hannahan and Grady will probably be back in a month too. Our lineup will probably never be without 5 starters for the rest of the year too (fingers crossed). If Chisenhall steps up and bats .280 with a .770 OPS (very possible) and Lopez continues to slug the ball (very possible), we will have a super balanced 1-9 attack.
I am worried that Santana may be out for more than a week though. Never heard of a concussion from a foul tip but hopefully he comes back soon. He needs to either hit for more power or average this year.
you never heard about it because there was no 7day concussion DL before this year nor was there nearly as much emphasis on concussions.
90MPH+ ball comes in and hits you in the head, helmet or not there is risk for concussion.
Williams said attendance could impact the White Sox at the trade deadline. ”If you can’t monetarily make something work, sometimes you have to do it with a greater cost to your talent,” Williams said. Chicago is averaging 20,663 this season at home. …
