Box Score: Red Sox 12, Indians 1
May 13, 2012While We’re Waiting… Young Indians rising, Damon slumping and Benjamin streaking
May 14, 2012After today’s 12-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox, Dan Wheeler was designated for assignment, clearing a spot on the club’s 25-man roster.
Wheeler entered today’s game in the seventh inning, trailing 6-1. He proceeded to allow six runs in just one inning , cementing the loss for the Tribe.
When asked if the Indians had given him a reason for the move, Wheeler replied, “Did they really have to?”
No corresponding roster move has yet been announced. Wheeler was serving as the bullpen’s long-man. Those duties may now go to Jairo Ascensio, with the team expected to keep Nick Hagadone with the Big League Team after Rafael Perez’s stint on the DL is over.
Regardless, a roster addition should be announced shortly to cover the interim. Frank Herrmann, currently on the club’s 40-man roster, would seem to be a candidate for the spot.

About time. Jairo needs to go next. I’d love to see them bring up Slowey as a long man who can actually give us some innings. There have been too many games over the past couple of weeks where we needed 2 or 3 innings out of our “long man” and couldn’t get them, putting more strain on Pestano, Smith, and Hagadone.
I use “long man” in quotes because forcing a reliever to give you 2+ innings just because you need him to doesn’t make him a long man. He needs to actually have the stamina to not break down after 1.
At least Wheeler knows why and he isn’t a knuckle-head who thinks he just needs more time to develop.
I see an interesting parallel between him and certain NFL coaches.
I get that they didn’t want to send down Wheeler while Raffy is out but seriously if I don’t see Hagadone handling 2 innings of relief soon I’m gonna spit.
Yes, spit.
Neither Hector Ambriz nor Jeremy Accardo are on the 40 man roster, just saying.
Thanks. Fixed.
Cut Damon next and bring up the future young players that can catch and hit more than
.158. Please don’t bring Frank back, he is just as bad as Dan. How about the young players that are hitting and pitching good in the minors. Glad you brought up Nick, very good pitch and young, too.

I see what you did there….
