The Indians were in control of this one for most of the night, until the eighth anyways, when the Twins tied the score at 4. All was not lost however, as the Tribe came back in the top of the ninth, scoring the go ahead run off the bat of Choo. Perez nailed down the win in the bottom half of the inning.

Shouldn’t have been this close Manny! But it was nice to see them win again.
Hitting still needs improved. Way too many weak grounders and pop outs, off of the first or second pitch of an at-bat.
May 14th, 2012. Casey Kotchman does something positive with his bat in an Indians game.
Ok, mark your calendars for 2087 #Haley’sCometRarity
well look at that, CP’s WHIP is better than Vinnie’s.. QS’s in 3 out of last 4 for Jeanmar is very niiiice, keep it up kiiiid
Who would have thought Gomez, Lowe, and Tomlin would be our top 3 pitchers? If Jimenez and Masterson can ever figure it out (probably won’t), and Tomlin get healthy. We could be very dangerous!
i’m sure it will all even out by the end of the year, as it usually does, but it’s definitely nice to see the bottom half of rotation pick the other 2 up.. not concerned about Jiminez and Masterson, yet.. there are many other very good pitchers struggling across the league, not specific to the Tribe.. just gotta keep grinding.
Hafner swinging early and popping up is killing us big time!
how slow is kotchman that marson came in as a pinch RUNNER?!
Phew! I decided to check in on the game in the 8th inning on mlb.com and saw that we were up 4-1. Then the RBI double happens. Then the two-run homer happens, and I thought, “OK, I need to quit watching this game or else the Tribe is done for.” I woke up this morning to find that the Tribe won 5-4… who knew I was cursed?
i’m concerned about Ubaldo. he’s got to be hurt for all his peripherals to drop off a cliff like they have this year. decreased velocity is one thing, but something is not right.
masterson will level out.
the Indians are cursed; you are but their inverse talisman
Sweet! I’ll be an inverse talisman.
We lead the league in base on balls by a rather large margin. We’re on pace for 760 walks this season. Plate discipline is not one of the many issues this team has to deal with.
Masterson’s peripherals are out of whack so far too. I don’t get why he gets the benefit of the doubt here, especially since he has a much shorter track record as a starter.
his SO/9 are close to last year
his GB% is about career normal
2 outliers are:
his HR/FB is too high (should come down)
his BB/9 is a career high (this is more disconcerting)
his velocity is down to 91 from near 93, but that is common with alot of pitchers early in the year. not sure if he is one of the guys that builds his velocity through the year or not. not too worried about that because his swinging strike% is about the same as is his SO/9.
so, really, if he can get his BBs down to his career norm and the HR/FB goes down (which it should), then he should become a reliable pitcher again. not ‘last year good’ maybe, but reliable.
It just seems like lately Hafner is swinging early for some reason, and his hitting has declined a little. Hopefully he won’t keep it up, but for now it is irritating.
All true.
His lack of control bothers me as does his continued trouble with lefties.
Jimenez also has a variety of pitches to use while, if the fastballs aren’t working for Masterson then he’s only got the slider.
I’m equallty worried about both but for different reasons.
I heart Derek Lowe.
any 38yo who goes 6-1 for the Tribe and has a complete game shutout on 127pitches (look at that leash Acta gave him) while inducing 4 GIDP among the 22 GBs to only 4 FBs on the day deserves all of our respect and admiration. even if it was against the Twins.
