May 8, 2012The Bengals lost Jerome Simpson this off-season and now it seems like they might have found a target to replace him to go opposite A.J. Green.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday’s edition of NFL Live that the Bengals have expressed interest in free agent receiver Braylon Edwards…
The 29-year-old Edwards’ market never developed during the heart of free agency because he was rehabbing knee and shoulder injuries at the time. Edwards recently revealed that he’s currently in Miami “getting healthy working out.”
Braylon Edwards might have disappointed to this point of his career as a number one target or certainly as a former #3 pick overall, but he still has value. At 29 and with the market not developing for Edwards’ services, he is probably poised to perform exactly according to expectations. It wouldn’t surprise me if he did become a pretty good value for whichever team ends up signing him this time.

Hey, Mike Brown recognizes his name! #BengalsScoutingService
Yeah, I don’t get it. They should know better.
I don’t care who you are that right there is fun-e.
Does Edwards have a Cincinnati-type of essence?
To paraphrase Bill Murray in Mad Dog and Glory, “You want him? Take him. And choke on him.”
Actually, if he’s reasonably healthy he is good value at veteran minimum contract as a third receiver. He could always get open, and he could draw some attention away from AJ Green.
Good. One less WR to cover.
If the fans boo him after he drops his 3rd pass of the game, it’ll just be because they’re Michigan haters.
I wish to like the MrCleav comment 100 times if possible.
Rehabbing in Miami? He better watch out for LBJ and his posse down there…
I dont see why the browns wouldnt offer him a deal. Hes honestly better than any of the WRs on the team currently. He’s honestly been one of, if not the, best WRs since the expansion. He would probably come cheap too.
He had the best season of any WR since ’99. No doubt about it.
What has he done in any other season of note? He had 183yds and 0TDs on the entire season last year and was cut before the playoffs began by the 49ers. The Jets needed a WR2 but gave up on him to sign fresh-out-of-prison Plaxico Burress. and, at 29, his career arc isn’t exactly aiming up.
To top that off, he didn’t exactly leave Cleveland last time on a good note. We don’t need another prima donna in the locker room, yeah I am looking at you Seneca. He is not the veteran that can mentor the younger receivers on the team either.
Jabar Gaffney or Plaxico Burress would be my choices, if they are willing to sign a FA wideout. I wish we could’ve stolen Mike Wallace from the Squeelers.
Oops. Just flipped over to Yahoo! Sports and saw that the PATS signed Gaffney this morning. Another opportunity gone. Oh well.
