Friday Tribe Thoughts: Week 1 Panic and Royals Weekend Preview
April 13, 2012Box Score: Indians 8, Royals 3
April 13, 2012A rumor linked to Tony Grossi’s musings is all over Twitter indicating that the trade winds could be blowing as we move closer to the draft. The meat of the rumor has the Eagles looking to move up to #4 presumably to take Ryan Tannehill. The Eagles have the 15th pick in the draft and also numbers 46 and 51 in the second round.
For the Browns, it takes them out of the running for guys like Richardson, Blackmon and of course, Tannehill. If it happens the Browns will have five picks in the top 51 which could allow them to fill more spots. It also gives them the bullets to trade back into the first round if they choose to go that route.
The trade being rumored does work out on the cliche, but presumably antiquated “NFL Draft Pick Value Chart.” Hopefully if the Browns do trade down they will pit the Eagles and a team like maybe the Dolphins against each other to really maximize the haul.

They just paid 100M to their QB. No way they’ll be trading multiple high draft picks for a project down the road.
instead of one of those teams sub them for the colts….jimersay is begging the number three pick be ryan tannehill because luck nor griffin want to play by themselves and they want our picks with kalil
I didn’t counter anything. The Browns have been hopelessly devoid of talent for years now. We need NFL starters, and a lot of them. That doesn’t mean we don’t need a “stud”, whatever that actually is, but we can’t ho-hum starters.
no kidding…………..there working the dolphins in trading up or another team to 3 or 4 tough to say but i do believe teams are interested…but eagles are upping the anti for us like a buddy relationship like how redskins had a buddy relationship with fisher and rams.
they just signed a lt in belle to a multi year deal….no they and andy reid are helping heckert and prez mike up the anti but i do beleive there are multi teams interested in picks 3 for vikings and pick four with the browns
so is kalil
no.yes.but no. serious they have too include at least one number one in 2013 for it to even be a conversation
sameul is old as sheldon brown
martin is weak in the bench as wr’s and cb’s benched more…also he is weak at pass blocking having double tight ends to his side, pulling guards, and full backs to help him chip, serious …ithink jamie mitchelle could get sacks off him….okay that was joking but probably true
the romote wont hurt so bad
assuming your percentages are correct…lets not screw any of them up and also not trade down unless we get a deal we got last year or the rams got…100 sure
just fs,cb,ncb,olb,another olb,de,back up dt’s and back up de’s,rt,rg,lg,te,3 wr’s,rb,fb,and qb
comon thats not true they could suck too
colts got us beat…so we lost again
upshaw benched 22 times….so did wr ryan broyles…who is the lb
grossi is an idiot on football….im sure he spells good but he should write diffrent colums maybe about the weather
big fan of richardson….but can’t pass ot kalil….sure would like to have them both
im just throwing ideas out there that we can bring home more then a couple all pro’s home and be set for a decade………next years draft class besides cb amerson,lb manti te’o,and qb barkley…the rest of draft sucks….this draft is deep
no
yes
Jayme Mitchell couldn’t get a sack off of 50 pounds of potatoes
He probably won’t be around.
I’d take it too. With that you can get a top pass rusher opposite Sheard, a stud RT opposite Thomas, Doug Martin who everyone is comparing to Ray Rice (there’s your star player) plus two other high picks for guys like Lavonte David or Coby Fleener.
I don’t think Floyd will be there at #15 though but I can understand where Acrossthefield is coming from with his comment. That being said with the Browns unwilling to really participate in free agency they might as well load up on as many draft picks as possible. Personally I’d prefer an all-pro at either RT, RB, WR or CB but I guess five or six “very good solid” players are ok too.
I’d have settled for condescending know it all but still funny.
Thanks for reminding me about 2007 when I was drooling over Adrian Peterson. I remember alot of ?s on Mr. Peterson many after I believe he had a surgical procedure before the draft much like Richardson I believe. Well those people were right it just took another five years before it happened. Until then AP was easily the best RB in football.
i understand the premise: STUDS ARE ONLY AVAILABLE AT PICK FOUR OR BETTER. DONT TRADE DOWN..
it’s utterly utterly asinine. not proud of my snarky tone toward him, but it’s worthy of it.
anyone curious who was at #4 versus who was there at #15 the last couple years?
2010 — trent williams/jason pierre paul (15)
2009 — aaron curry/brian cushing (15)
2008 — darren mcfadden/chris johnson (24)
2007 — gaines adams/jon beeson (25)
2006 — dbrick ferguson/nick mangold (29)
2005 — cedric benson/aaron rogers (24)
2004 — phillip rivers/stephen jackson (24)
2003 — dewayne robertson/troy polomalou (16)
trading down with the falcons was smart. trading up for phil taylor was not. trading down with the jets was smart. taking back washed up vets and draft veikune was not.
i dont blame the fans for this simplistic ‘get a playmaker at 4’ idiocy. i will say that the cleveland MSM seems completely unable to perform analysis beyond ‘get a franchise QB’ and it seems to permeate much of the fan base.
you lost me.
Vick’s deal isn’t really for $100 million as the team has lots of outs…

I understand where you are both coming from it all stems from the fact that the Browns don’t inspire much faith in whomever, whenever they draft. Lets face it no matter what they do if they don’t draft well the point is mute. When you put all your eggs in one basket (drafting) you better hit on at least 75% of those picks otherwise you’ll be drafting for another five or six years. Meanwhile the guys you drafted in year one of those five or six year cycles are now that much older, used.
no one needs to be reminded about David “No stats accumulated” Veikune. and we ALL know about Mike Wallace, Clay Matthews, Shady Mccoy and where/how we could have gotten all of them…. excuse me while i go cry in the corner
but hes still better than any other DB we have not named Haden (or maybe Ward). As a #2 cb for a 4th rounder its worth it. plus his contract will be up just in time to extend Haden. wonderful
everyone here hates you and this diabolical plan
This is genius. Wherever H&H draft they have to be high impact players. I always thought we were trying to draft low impact players. I had it all wrong. Thank you for bringing clarity to the situation.
I’m not sure if they are sold on Bell though. He has an injury background and played decent for the bills but had his issues. They got a replacement in Bell but they probably are worried that Reiff and Martin might not be there when they pick. Their line is a mess and they are loaded at the skill positions. Maybe they want Richardson and have the greatest 1 2 punch with Lesean McCoy and T Richardson and maybe have the greatest collection of skill players any team has ever seen.
I’ll take Reiff at #4 if we have to if Kalil is gone.
It would be great but do we want to trade away the pick next year when Barkley and jones and some other good qb’s will be available.
we could use other number one picks, and save 2013 first…anything is possible….heck i think the colts would trade down with us if kalil falls to us and also rams want to trade up for four for balckmon….vikings will trade to dolphins for tannehill or draft claiborne and tampa bay will draft richardson and kalil might fall to six if no trade happens up or down for him…but to say the least there is going to be alot of senerios that can go down
And then Heckert would trade both 2nd rounders to move up to #12 to take some reach first rounder.
i would love to have richardson…….imagine this….kalil falls to us at four,we draft him, then the rams want to trade up or down, and cleveland is in talks with them, we trade some kind of form of picks and maybe futere picks with our mountin of picks we go this year and get both kalil, richardson and a o-guard or two….og gleen,og decastro,og osemele,og brandon brooks, brandon washington…ect….then you can play bull you over mulling you into the dirst knocking the snot out of you smacking them in the mouth hard core run in down your throat smash mouth football!!!!!!!!!!! ya you know where running and try to stop us!!
Exactly. We need depth. Which makes the free agency allergy all the more confounding.
he is decent but you can trade out of the 4 spot to the range of 8-10
Pass me some of dat Kool-Aid…you do know you are talking about the Browns right? They don’t trade UP and they certainly don’t trade future draft picks. They are the “Driving Ms. Daisy’s” of the NFL. Slow, methodical and boring but I give you credit for being so imaginative.
strong word man….what did i do…kill me for tring to get our team better……..you would have 5 first rounders,5 second rounders now!!!!!!!!!! rams gave thrre number ones and second for one guy…….man i dont hate you or anyone….but adams and martin did the bench in the low 20’s and have been beat by there man multiple times during the season…you hate me for the facts….well i love my team and dont want bums,i love cleveland and ohio and love all of you!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry if i affended anyone!!!!!!!!!!
I would advise you not to watch the draft because I think you are going to be extremely disappointed. You are putting in way to much thought for the Cleveland Browns. For them to do anything like half of what you’ve suggested would require an out of body experience for Heckert.
i agree if the want four its kalil …i think there trying and colts want a team to jump to threee for tannehill for kalil as well
i agree and wouldnt be sold on him as well …how much money they throw at him?
he might slide if a team jumps up to three for qb tannehill or vikingks get claiborne or blackmon….then we could take kalil and trade up for the rams 6th pick with a varity of picks ang grab kalil and richardson
sorry tring to be funny,,but i liked are trade last year when we got a number one in the furture draft…and rams got three number ones….i dont like a mangi trades for just second rounders
ya..i agree with that ,wasnt tring to sound like a jerk its just i was hoping to pair a young cb with hadden, such as cb dre kirkpatrick,cb janoris jenkins,cb trumain johnson…and later rounds for your nickle cb in cliff harris and jayron hosely and save our money for our guys or when we get build good and strong through the draft then we pay out big for a player or two
