Antawn’s Closing Advance
April 26, 2012Tonight We Say Farewell to the 2011-12 Cleveland Cavaliers
April 26, 2012When arguably the greatest running back in the history of the NFL played for your franchise, it only makes sense to ask his opinion when the team is rumored to be leaning toward drafting a new running back.
Most former athletes would give a boring, vanilla, vague nod of approval. But not Jim Brown. In an interview with ESPN radio, Jim Brown made it clear he doesn’t think Trent Richardson is anything special.
“I’m not overwhelmed with it,” Brown said of the idea that the Browns could take Richardson. “The problem is that he’s ordinary. I think he’s ordinary.”
Asked what about him is ordinary, Brown said, “the size, the speed, his moves.”
Asked if any running backs in this year’s draft impress him, Brown said, “Not really. It’s not a good year, obviously.”
Brown would go on to say that today’s NFL is a QB’s game, and if you look at the QBs and RBs on many recent Super Bowl teams, it’s a point hard to argue with. Still, with so many pundits saying Richardson is the best RB prospect since Adrian Peterson, it’s going to be awfully hard for the Browns to pass on a potential franchise RB who can easy some of the offensive burden from Colt McCoy and the WR group.
Perhaps that’s a little counter intuitive to how the best teams do it today, but it just might be the best option the Browns have.

To clarify, however, Jim Brown hasn’t been impressed with a RB since Jim Brown played RB.
Cleveland Browns Fans on Jim Brown: “We think he’s bitter”
“Jim Brown is ordinary” – James Lipton from inside the actor’s studio
Someone needs a little attention
although I agree with the comments already expressed, i also agree with J.B.
Im just not sure what sets TRich apart from Mark Ingram
You stole the words directly from the firing synapses in my gray matterz.
Answer: One year’s worth of draft talk/hype.

AT LEAST WE KNOW THAT JIM BROWN IS NOT BITTER WITH THE CLEVELAND BROWNS AT ALL, AND WOULD GIVE A TOTALLY OBJECTIVE OPINION ABOUT ANY PLAYER THE BROWNS WERE LOOKING AT DRAFTING.

Trent Richardson < Trent Dilfer
Trent Richardson < Trent Dilfer
In other sporting news, Michael Jordan thinks Harrison Barnes is plain like a bagel and Omar Vizquel thinks Francisco Lindor is totally lame.
When you are one of the best to ever play the position, everyone else IS ordinary.
They interviewed him. ESPN sought his opinion. It’s like he was sky-writing his opinion over the skies of Northeast Ohio.

Your sarcasm font looks like angry font. You should have your internet machine looked at.

DOUBLE-REVERSE!
on a more relevant note, Bill Parcells shared some nice insights on a pre-draft show. He said If you spread receivers or are sending TEs out in patterns your RB better block real well or a good defense will see that and slide over to crush your QB. He said Richardson is the one you want in this draft, Wilson doesn’t block too well.
JB sure seems intent on ruining the last vestiges of good will with bitter soundbites. It’s called class, JB, why use your fame to dog the young man when you can decline comment. H and H made it pretty clear they are not interested in your personnel expertise, such as it is. I’m not either.
My initial reaction was, he’s scared this kid could break his team records.
ZING
wow
I can’t decide whether this comment should be “flagged” or “liked.”
I have refused to do either, but in my mind it’s solidly “fliked.”
saw that. it was refreshing to see some draft coverage with any level of intelligence or insight. Why doesn’t ESPN think that they would have a little better viewership/ratings/generate interest in the actual draft(show) by having in depth draft shows – talk about players ranked 8 – 60. not the top 6 guys and tannenhill for 2 months. good god, its been torture.
I just see him sitting on his porch glaring at the neighbors house, daring the kids to jump his wrought iron fence to get their frisbee back.
Is there any way I can appropriately express the sentiment that I kinda look forward to him expiring so I can actually get to a place where I miss him? Or is that just out of bounds all together?
Okay to be fair Harrison Barnes is pretty ordinary though
if you get the ‘next Peterson’, ‘next SJax’, the ‘next chris johnson’, ‘next MJD’ . . you could be the next vikings, rams, titans, or jags. SIGN ME UP!
Claiborne or Trade!
nah, the angry font has lots of !!!!!1!!1!eleven!!
That’s horrible, terrible, reprehensible, deplorable, and inhuman.
(I was sorta thinking the same thing. Whew! Glad I didn’t say it out loud. Good job, brain. Let PCX look like an idiot. We’re in the clear! What’s that? I just typed that I thought the same thing? That’s it. I’m outta here.)
Jim Brown left football far too early to go be in movies. I do not understand the love affair this city has with him. Yes he was good 40 years ago. Ever since he has been a pretty terrible person
you never saw Mars Attacks!
Ol’ 32 would quickly slap an asterisk on that new record (and not without reasonable justification!).
it goes to 11?
not in ASCII
I’m thinking the game has changed since 1964. They now throw the ball down the field. Wasn’t he on the payroll when they drafted all of busta?
FIRE-BALL! FIRE-BALL!
if you get the next Ray Rice or Frank Gore can you be just like the Ravens or 49ers?
awww hamburgers, the picture didn’t come through. FAIL
Snap
I’m well aware of Jim Brown’s bitter demeanor, but he honestly summed up my exact thoughts based on my extremely limited sample size of T-Rich (both LSU games, Kent State). I just don’t see the same things everyone else apparently does.
Cleveland fans are like “The Graduate.” We are infatuated with things that used to be beautiful 30, 40, 50 years ago.
But come on, nobody could kill Nazis like Jim Brown, juking and weaving, dropping grenades in ventilation shafts. Splendid. Glorious.
well, yeah, cuz 11 is louder than 10, roight?
Thats messed up man, why he have to be sitting on his porch?
+1 Nigel
I say this because when cleveland trade down, he still be there
Captain Freedom would have torn him up
ACK! ACK! ACK!
Good? He was arguably the greatest football player ever. I know this because ESPN repeats that phrase without mercy. Also, Manuel Noriega is a strongman and President Garfield was shot by a disgruntled office seeker.
Crap, I’m losing it. Can we just cut to the draft and use these 4 hours tomorrow? Please WFNY, no open thread, I might vaporize in front of y’all. [fumbles for meds, spills coffee]
Go back to your hole, bitter old man. Nobody cares what you think.
