Ohio State Lands 4-Star QB Prospect JT Barrett
April 18, 2012Why do the Browns play the Eagles twice in three weeks?
April 18, 2012The Cleveland Indians announced Wednesday that starting pitcher Jeanmar Gomez has been suspended by Major League Baseball for 5 games and fined an undisclosed amount for intentionally hitting Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas.
Gomez threw at Moustakas in retaliation for Royals’ starter Jonathon Sanchez hitting Shin-Soo Choo with a pitch. Sanchez, who threw the pitch that broke Choo’s thumb last season, and it appears the Indians were not thrilled about Sanchez hitting Choo with a pitch again this year.
Jeanmar Gomez is expected to appeal the suspensions and will likely make his scheduled start Saturday in Oakland.

You got it. We’ve seen this dance before.
Seems about right. You can’t do what Gomez did and not expect to be suspended. He deserves it. But I’m glad he did it.
will this stop Sanchez from throwing at Choo again? probably not.
if Choo went and treated Sanchez like Robin Ventura, would he ever throw at him again? probably not.
of course, with our luck, Choo would break his hand on one of Sanchez’s ribs.
Is it just me or is the league being a lot harsher with this stuff than in the past? I don’t remember all these sanctions just for plunking a guy…this has always been a part of baseball for as long as I can remember and other than the usual bench warnings/player gettings ejected, I don’t remember there being any further penalties unless the pitcher was intentionally trying to injure the guy/going after their head or something.
What about Sanchez?
Jeanmar is a class kid who did what he had to do, Sanchez should receive no less. I hope that the Tribe pool together to help pay JG’s fine cause he took one for the team. The penalty is crap. He did not throw at his head he bounced one off of his ass. This is baseball. BTW Jeanmar had never been thrown out of a game at any level prior to this. Good for the Tribe for showing some swagger and attitude, this is what this team needs! Go Tribe, Go Jeanmar!
We don’t KNOW that Sanchez was throwing at Choo but it is obvious that Gomez threw at Moustakas. That’s the difference.
Sanchez may not attempt to throw at Choo anymore but I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if he still hit him. The guy has next to no control. I don’t think either HBP was intentional.
Exactly, what is so hard to understand about this?
Intentional hit batsman by the Royals, ha. Have you checked out our starting rotation? They couldn’t hit anything intentionally.
