Kyrie Irving Sits the Fourth as Cavs Cruise into Summer
April 24, 2012Up is Down. Left is Right. Jack Hannahan is…Good?
April 24, 2012It’s just a matter of being healthy. I was able to hit more this spring than I have in the last few years. I just started the season in a good spot. So much of hitting is just being able to practice a lot. It’s just getting to where its as simple as possible, and when you’re up at the plate you don’t have to really think about anything other than how the pitcher is going to pitch to you. […] In the last few years, if I hit too much, I was shot for the game. Basically, in the past, it was kind of ‘Get loose and go play the game.’ Now, I’ve been able to practice a normal amount, and you know you can play five or six games in a row — it’s a lot easider to get into a rhythm like that.
– Cleveland Indians designated hitter Travis Hafner on his early-season success. Heading into Monday, Hafner is hitting .357 with a two home runs, three doubles and eight RBI. He has amassed walks (12) and hits (15), sporting a .509 on-base percentage.

Save Pronk!
Yeah, you’re right; we should have cut those Cy Young winners before they even won the G.D. award. What were we thinking?

It’s lame of me, but I really still like Pronk and I just wish he’d be the mean, hitting machine I know he is inside and just crush the crap out of the ball all year.
And, I have a Pronkville shirt I won at a game once. I wear it semi-proudly.
On the DL by June 1st.
I have a Tshirt jersey for Hafner. I wore it the last few years, so I certainly enjoy wearing it this year 🙂
as long as it’s a short stint, who cares?
if Pronk puts up his numbers for 100+ games per year, then we are getting solid offensive production on an overall offense-poor team. he is one of our top4 hitters any way you slice it even if he is hitting at his reduced rate (past few seasons).
if he can continue to be our top hitter and play 120 games, then all the better and it may help our team become an above average offensive team (which puts us in much better shape to compete this year).
ignore the contract as it doesn’t matter presently and just look at the production.
Cliff Lee did seem pretty close to being shipped out in 2007.
What price glory?
rabble?
rabble!
I have a Bat Day bat with his name inscribed from his feared masher days. No longer seems ironic.
To me he looks as strong, confident and pitch selective as any time since ’07. At, let’s say, $11m for 2 years, he’s a safer bet than Grady was this year for $5m. I’m not sick of looking at him like I was sick of Peralta.
Playing productive in a contract year? No Way!
I’m just going to enjoy the Pronk Farewell Tour the rest of the season.
“In the last few years, if I hit too much, I was shot for the game.”
I’ve never played baseball at the Major League level…but does this quote coming from a strict DH whose one job is to step to the plate 3-4 times a game while making millions of dollars a year irk anyone else?
Seriously. This is the last year of the rotten contract so let’s just hope that Hafner makes the most of it.
NIIIIIICE.
I have a Choo give-away jersey from last year that may see some action soon.
Cy Young?
Yeah, and then he had a Cy Young year. And then we let him go. And then I cried.
i’m still waiting on his patented gun-out speedster at HP in a crucial spot play.
if he keeps this up, then you won’t be happy with the price.
my guesstimate in March was a 1 or 2 year $5mil/year deal.
you would be if we put him at SS 🙂
he was saying that he was injured to the point where practice hurt him come gametime. do you doubt it?
Yep. That’s what’s so frustrating to me. The me of today loves what Hafner’s doing right now. The me of 2013? Probably notsomuch.
I guess I can handle one year at $5 mil. I just don’t want a repeat of the last 5.
Man, I wish the guy could play 1B.
I don’t doubt it one bit, which makes me even more angry at the price he cost this team for the return value we receive for him.
they’d have about the same range. I was probably wasn’t fair with Jhonny. Just hadn’t seen lazy 4-hoppers go up the middle and into centerfield from ’93 until he slowly ambled into town, and couldn’t forgive him for that.
Hafner on Success: “Its really just a matter of realizing that your contract is up at the end of the season, so you put a little more effort into offseason conditioning, and playing with those minor nagging injuries that used to keep me sidelined for weeks at a time. The big thing is show enough value to get paid again next year. I know the misery I have caused porckchop and I know he and his friends are planning a last game of the year party to celebrate the end of my sandbagging salary gulping run here in Cleveland. So if I can play just well enough to warrant the option on my contract I make that guy miserable for one more year. Impossible? They paid Grady didn’t they?”
Can I please come to this party you’re planning? I’ll bring beer and sandbags.
that’s fair. I haven’t been happy with the ROI on him, Westbrook, and Sizemore who I have lumped together as our mid-decade bad contract trio.
but, it’s a new day and hopefully he gives us a discount before he goes to the open market to help make up for that (not holding my breath, but we’ve got months before worrying about it)
Rabble!
Rabble!
Absolutely, Party Deck area in right field October 3rd vs. White Sox. Thats the last game, we do have contingency plans to move the date up when Hafner inevitably shuts it down for the season in early August when that degenerative hangnail flairs back up.
You can come too, we always need rabble rousers.
you’ll need game7 of the WS tickets to celebrate the last game of the season for the Indians
(I mean, why not be deliriously happy at the moment; Indians in 1st place, Browns best day of the year coming up tomorrow, and the Cavs are getting better draft position by the day)
