Elias: Jamison Matches Career Mark
April 7, 2012Box Score: Blue Jays 7, Indians 4
April 7, 2012It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game. It’s only one game.
I’m not sure why the Tribe’s Opening Day loss felt as brutal as it did.Sure, any time your closer blows a save (not to mention a gem by your starting pitcher), it sucks. And having that blown save come on Opening Day, a day full of optimism and sunshine and happiness, hurts all the more.
But it was the combination of Chris Perez’s blown save coupled with the fact that the offense looked so anemic was what really drove home the misery.
The Indians played an Opening Day record 16 innings on Thursday and didn’t make any noise in 15 of them. That is not good. When you add the fact that they’re coming off an offseason full of band-aid signings (really, Derek Lowe? A guy who was a playoff team that beat the Indians two rebuilds ago?) and reports that our cash-strapped owners are actually making money, I can see how folks might find themselves down after that loss.
For the second game of the season, Manny Acta gives the ball to Ubaldo Jimenez. If Ubaldo, currently appealing his suspension from his spring training altercation, can put in a strong performance, it would do a lot to wash away the sour taste of Thursday’s loss and ease the stomachs of Indians fans.. And if Ubaldo had has a poor performance… and if the offense doesn’t show sings of life… well, I’m sure everyone will remain calm and not overreact.
The Blue Jays will counter with their big right hander Brandon Morrow.
First pitch is 1:05PM.

LoL I just talked about “It’s only one game” but that motto definitely applies to the Indians.
At least we get to face a righty today. Hooray for an all lefty lineup!
I thought Ubaldo sucked according to almost every Indians fan… He looked pretty damn good today.
Ubaldo pitched well today but he still walks way too many hitters. He did better today but I believe his k/w ratio was still 1:1. It’s difficult to be a top-end starter when you give up those type of free passes; especially when your offense is shall we say sub-par.
He gave up one hit. Had a perfect game after 6 innings. He gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. But still not good enough for you huh?
Two games two strong starts two losses by the great Bullpen Mafia. If it’s not one thing it’s another but that’s the problem with a team that has to play at it’s best to win. There is virtually no margin of error even just two games into the season.
