NFL Network’s Mike Mayock on Tannehill: “I think Cleveland has to take him at No. 4”
March 29, 2012While We’re Waiting… Cavaliers statistically, hogging draft picks and Tribe roster mistake?
March 30, 2012Its not a done deal yet, but the Indians may have added that extra legitimate veteran bat they have been searching for.
According to CBS Sports’s Jon Heyman, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Indians are close to a deal that would bring veteran outfielder Bobby Abreu to Cleveland. Though nothing has been finalized, Heyman says the Angels would be picking up a “vast, vast majority” of Abreu’s $9 million salary. The 38-year-old will be a free agent at the end of the season. The Indians have no comment as of yet.
What the Indians will send to the Angels is also still unknown, but the more of the salary they Angels take on, the better the player the Indians will send back. (UPDATE: Fox Sports’s Jon Morosi says the player sent to the Angels is OF Trevor Crowe). If the trade becomes official, Abreu will most likely become a part of a left field platoon with Shelley Duncan.
The former Astros, Phillies, Yankees, and Angels OF hit .253/.353/.717/8 HR/60 RBI in 142 games in 2012. For his career, Abreu is a .293/.397/.878/284 HR/1325 RBI in 16 seasons.

ok, whatever. call me when Billy Beane wins something.
you’d have to think his sabremetrics even out. or maybe he’s just getting FREAKING OLD!
what’s best for the Tribe is to save the $ they would spend on Abreu and apply it to a signing that makes a difference when we are ready to contend. but, of course, that won’t happen.
Billy Beane is overrated and imo kind of an idiot. Just because you use advanced stats doesn’t mean you use them correctly.
Take a good long look around baseball. EVERYBODY takes an analytical approach to the game now. Why? Because it works. Try to find a FO that doesn’t use this stuff. It isn’t the way of the future any more; it’s the way of the present.
Also, it wasn’t like the A’s/Beane were the only one doing it back then either. The Red Sox won their WSs thanks to a front office that loved number crunching.
I just don’t get the prejudice against stats. They enrich the game. They help people understand it better. How is that bad?
Well, assuming the trade actually happens, it looks like it won’t cost us much at all. This does bring us to the main point, though. They said that our time for contending is now. I certainly agree that it’s a little a late to be trying to fill important gaps, particularly with guys like this. All of that aside, however, I still don’t see any risk to this trade – even financial.
hey, I mentioned his runs and RBI just for you!
