Cavaliers Take On Short-Handed Bucks
March 14, 2012NFL Free Agency: Browns S / CB Mike Adams visiting Denver Broncos
March 14, 2012Update: According to Adam Schefter the Browns have signed Frostee Rucker to a 5-year $21 million deal with about $8 million guaranteed. I predicted on Twitter that Rucker wouldn’t get much more than $2 million per year. We won’t know what the breakdown will look like for a while, but it seems like I might have been a bit low. Still, it sounds like there will be a lot of incentives and bonus types of provisions in his deal with a gap of $13 million between stated value and guaranteed dollars.

Original report:
O.K. we finally have enough info to report something about Frostee Rucker. It might have been accurate in hindsight, but all I had was a Twitter rumor from a guy who allegedly knows Frostee Rucker’s girlfriend’s best friend. No. I am not kidding. Welcome to the modern age of social media.
Anyway, Joe Reedy of The Enquirer is finally reporting that Frostee Rucker and the Browns could be wrapped up by the end of the day. He is, in fact, meeting with the team.
Frostee Rucker appears to be a decent upgrade for Jayme Mitchell to play opposite Jabaal Sheard. It also sounds like the kind of guy who will come at a real value. Rucker had a decent season with four sacks. He is in his sixth season out of USC and he is 6’3″ 280 pounds and 28 years old.

Ugh. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2493684
RDE is definitely a need. some injury history and not a slam dunk, but solid nonetheless.
I’m more concerned that he allegedly has two eyes made out of coal.
I’m sure that was all just part of a contractual clause with the Bengals.
wow, I remembered something about him, but not his sordid past.
accused of sexual assault/rape 3 times (at least)
public nudity/flashing twice
assault (of a woman – punching)
false imprisonment
vandalism
and a couple other drunk ‘incidents’
Good move, we need to use the FA market to address depth at weak positions and use the draft to fill those spots with potential starters. No need to run out and blow all that cap space on big names, just get us some depth.
Some of those sound like things I’ll likely be accused of this weekend.
Does this eliminate the possibility of trading down and grabbing Quinton Coples?
hopefully your weekend isn’t grotesque enough that ESPN OTL does a 30 minute segment on you
Garry, that took me a while, but it was worth the head slap.
lol perfect not only for the name but well the rest. I can’t help but feel like this is the Indians offseason, good grief!
It was low-hanging fruit, unbecoming of this august forum and my impeccable reputation, but just too easy to pass up.
It was either that or the corncob pipe. Button nose?
Based on his rap sheet, I wasn’t about to go with him being a jolly, happy soul.
Some criminally violent depth, apparently. The defensive line can have a “throwing dudes through windows” party.

Hide your wives, hide your kids, hide your husbands, everybodys about to get raped up in here.

Schefter says it is official: Browns signed former Bengals DE Frostee Rucker to a five-year deal worth over $20 million.
Ok, that was great.
Corncob pipe was dead on what I thought originally. Next signing: Slurpee!
Sounds like you’re going to need an attorney. On retainer. Let me give you my card . . .
As I recall Browns fans were complaining that we never look past character issues and get good players when James Harrison was knocking out guys out, but now we’re complaining that he has a record? Hardest fan base to please in the world.
It’s about time we got a player with some attitude on the defense. He can’t be as bad as Jayme.
Heckert has definitely looked past some character issues. But, there’s character issues and there’s Frostee Rucker’s rap sheet.
Then again, he’s been getting arrested since he was 11yo, so he’s had a bit of a head-start on most other guys his age.
I’ll admit. I chuckled.
Hypno, you must be new here if you think all Browns fans think alike. Right, Ori?
Anyway, welcome to the food fight, and I disagree with everything you have said or ever will say.
Um James Harrison was an MVP but who knows the way the Browns paid for Frostee maybe he’s next! 😉
With any luck that will be during the after party when they beat Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh…
. . . for the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP!
Fine with me.
and Steinbach was cut. wonder what his cap hit is going to be.
Source?
Ok, they did something. Good. I’m not going to complain about the myriad red flags. I hope it works out

Seriously? That’s bad, in my opinion. I hope there’s a FA Plan B for LG.
I’m starting to question the decision-making. Rage building. Outrage looming. The Dark Side is calling. Where’s Ori?
His salary is 6 million this year, and his signing bonus was 17 million, so thats roughly 2.43 million per year…Dawgs by Nature says they are not sure what or if any accelerators may be.
In a nutshell, I have no idea

Nice statement by Steinbach (except for the “stay classy” bit – wha??). I would certainly like to see the Browns do something to keep him.
More cost cutting moves seriously is Larry Dolan part owner or what? Steinbach was one of my favorites loved when they spent to bring him here now for his sake I hope it’s true. I hope he’s healthy and goes somewhere and wins.
He and Roethlisberger can exchange rape secrets/strategies while Frostee is laying on top of Big Ben after a sack.
Wait, I’m not seeing a lot of people being annoyed with this move and that has me confused… is he a great run-stopper or something? Last year was the first year he played all 16 games (averaged about 10 per season before that), he has character issues, and he doesn’t get sacks. Rucker might have had 2.5 more sacks than Mitchell, but they put up about the same number of tackles for loss. Rucker didn’t force any fumbles, at least Mitchell had one. If this means the Browns are no longer going after Mincey, you can count me as displeased.
we cut 1 ex-bengal lineman (saved $4.5 cap room) to sign another (~$4mil cap hit)
Mincy re-signed with Jacksonville
Mincey already re-signed with JAX this morning.
and I am annoyed with this move and think we overpaid a bit for what he is. I think he can be at this best as a rotational player at RDE and DT (spelling Sheard on running downs and one of the DTs on passing downs). He played both for Cinci too. He could play roughly 60-70% of the downs that way and be a legitimate help (keeps those other guys fresh too).
But, I hate his history. And, I still think we need a LDE to start (unless we want to draft a DE high and have him rotate at first with Frostee there).
Nuts… I didn’t catch that about Mincey. I guess Rucker probably is about the best we could find in free agency for a non-astronomical price. But I agree, he’s going to get into trouble at some point and make the Browns look bad. He’s also not a starter… good depth guy, but not a starter (had as many sacks last season as a non-starter in 6 games as he had as a starter in 10 games). I hope Heckert didn’t grab him thinking he’s our solution at RDE (I think Sheard was moved to LDE wasn’t he? I remember a lot of talk last year about how they started Sheard off going up against the LT at RDE, but his natural position in college was the other side so they moved him and he became more productive… right?)
yeah, Sheard was on the defensive left after the first month or so. sorry, I always think of it from the offensive POV for whatever reason.

If Frostee Rucker climbs up in my window, I’m going to taze his ass…
I’ve actually been coming to this site on the daily for the past 2 years or so. I usually just prefer to sit back and watch (read) you guys duke it out than add my own two cents in.
Not all Browns fans are the same, but a lot of them are (see: Cleveland.com)
Are you referring to his time in Philly? I can’t remember the last time the Browns took a chance on a guy with character issues.
Some turn in to James Harrison, others turn into Pacman Jones. I just wish they’d take a gamble once in a while. We could use the talent.
Had James Harrison been charged multiple times for violence against women before he even entered the league? Has he ever been charged of such a thing ever? I don’t see the comparison here at all.
