Contest Time: Cleveland Indians Opening Day Tickets

openingday2012

As we like to do from time to time, we are giving away something here at WFNY. Today we are giving away a pair of seats to the SOLD OUT Cleveland Indians opener next Thursday.

This will be the 20th consecutive Opening Day sell out, dating back to the final season at old Cleveland Municipal Stadium. (I can admit to being at several of these games, including the last at Muni, and the first few at the Jake.)

There are just a few rules for the contest. First, you have to be able to go to the game. Don’t enter if you have no intention of going. Second, only one entry per household please.

Here’s how to enter- simply leave a comment with a favorite Opening Day memory, or perhaps why you want to attend this year’s Opening Day in particular. Winner will be randomly selected and notified by email. Make sure the email you use to comment with is legit. Good luck!

I’ll never forget when my father surprised me at school in 2001 and took me to scalp tickets to the opener. I remember a HR was hit to about arms length of us. I would love to return the favor this year.

  • Big Meech

Never been to a season opener, but I would love to go to the one the year we win it all. #rolltribe

  • MOARwins

I remember how exciting it was when the Jake first opened.  This season I want to see our great power outfielder we acquired in free agency.  O wait oops.

  • I would love to go just to say I saw the home opener of the 2012 world series champs

  • LWilliams

My reason for wanting to go is I hav been a HUGE tribe fan for years and I have never been to opening day I love the sights the sounds and the smells of progressive field it is truly the best ballpark out there. I love the poeple of cleveland and how much they care about their tribe! Thank you and GOOOOOOO TRIBE!!!

  • Roll Tribe

Last year I caught a foul ball off of Asdrubal Cabrera’s baseball bat! that would be awesome for the chance to see the Indians kick but and to catch another one!

  • @CleSoldier2011

My favorite opening day moment was not actually seeing it in person but having… And get this the Detroit Tigers sending me a DVD of the Indians opening day while I was in Iraq. That was truly special.

  • Sanford1988

Believe it or not I really liked what the Indians did in the offseason. I’m looking forward to them contending all year vs the Tigers. also want to get over last years opener!

  • Foghorn Leghorn

i think they should just give em to you.

  • DaleArm91

Watching Opening Day 2010 from the nosebleeds and seeing Bob Feller throw out the first pitch was one of the coolest experiences I’ve ever had. To go this year and be able to see Omar Vizquel play for Toronto would be just as special.

  • MallaLubba

My favorite Indians memory is being there in person to see Cabrera’s unassisted triple play. I want to go to this opening day to potentially get a new favorite Indians memory. …but that one is going to be hard to beat.

  • Andy

Out of all the tribe games I’ve been to over the years, I’ve never made it to an opening day. I’d love to change that!

  • Cle Whip

I have never been to opening day but I have heard many stories from my dad about his opening day expereinces.  I would love the oppurtunity to make my own opening day memories.

random selection is fine by me.  i’ll get her tickets to a different game if not this one and i’m sure she’ll make it a point to go to a few before her surgery outside that as well.

I am a college student and have never had the chance to finally get  to see one!

  • Robb Hendershot

    I want to be a kipness….

  • Erica

1993… last Opening Day at old Municipal Stadium and also the incredible quiet during the moment of silence for the tribute to pitchers Steve Olin and Tim Crews…

  • BaseballMom

The Opening Day celebration and excitement.  Love to see all the fans rooting for the home team! Go Tribe!!

  • DaveT

My favorite opening day was during my sophomore year in college. A group of us went to see Frank Robinson’s first game as manager. Municipal Stadium never looked so good with all of the majesty and celebrations for the beginning of another Tribe season.

Buying a nose bleed ticket and getting to the batters eye bar fast enough to watch the entire game from the seats out in center. I don’t think those seats exist any more.

  • Brad

My favorite opening day memory has to be the opening of the Jake in 94. I was just getting old enough to appreciate the sport, and man, what a team. I’m still bitter about the strike ruining that team’s chances…

  • Kunal

Never been to an opening day but my favorite memory has to be the snow game a few years ago

  • Dave

My favorite opening day memory is hands down the game that was snowed out. It’s hard to forget since I broke my leg at The Clevelander after the game was called.

  • Steve

Yup, this should definitely be the winner.

  • Derek

I have only been to one home opener but would love to go again!

  • Ryan07ftw

A couple years ago when the Indians were facing the Blue Jays and we had upper level seats… One 5 hour rain delay later we were sitting in the front row behind the Indians dugout with just a couple hundred people left at the ballpark. Strangest MLB experience I’ve ever had.

  • Drew

Never been to opening day in person, but my most memorial opening day was 2007. I was in the Cleveland Clinic’s waiting room as my father was having surgery on a brain tumor. I remember having to argue with a woman who was watching fox 8 while reading a book to switch it over to game. Snow delays, bad waiting room coffee, and uncomfortable chairs was what I remember most. While it never counted, the game was a great distraction while we waited for the eventual good news of a successful surgery.

  • Dave

Favorite memory of opening day:  Blue Jays, long rain delay,  When the game restarted, the place was almost empty.  Kids got to sit behind the dugout, a huge difference from the sold out crowd when they game started…

  • Marcy

Would LOVE to go to opening day!!!!!!!

  • I have been a Cleveland sports fan my whole life. I moved to Florida for work 9 years ago and I recently moved back to Cleveland 6 months ago. I have yet to be to a opening day game and would love to see my beloved Indians set off the season.

  • tvandyke

A few years ago my boyfriend took me to my first MLB game which was also Opening Day. We had an amazing time. He caught me a ball and I got it signed by a few of the players! It was a perfect first game for me.

  • Mike T

I wold love to make opening day my son’s first baseball game!

  • Kornlef777

MY FATHER HAD PASSED AWAY 2 YEARS AGO HE USED TO ALWAYS GO TO THE OPENING GAME I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE HIS GRANDSON TO THE OPENER FOR HIM TO WATCH DOWN ON US TO BRING A WINNER

  • runner507

I moved to Cleveland for school but fell in love with what it had to offer, particularly the sports teams. As a converted baseball fan to the Indians from the Reds (yes, a shame I ever liked them), I have gone to dozens of games in the past years but never an opening day. I FINALLY have the whole day free, and I’m ready to sport my Indians colors marking it off my top ten bucket list items!

  • I have never been to a home opener ! I remember as a kid going to the old stadium. it was a family outing with my mom and dad usually bleacher seats ! My mom would always pack lunch and carry blankets for those chilly night games ! That is why to this day I love baseball and The Tribe because it brings back good memories ! GO TRIBE !

  • Jstamp

I went to the 75 opener with my father. Frank Robinson hit a lead off home run as the first black manager in baseball. I would love to re-live that memory with him this year
