NFL News: Browns to franchise Phil Dawson again
March 2, 2012Box Score: Bulls 112, Cavaliers 91
March 2, 2012Quicken Loans has decided to suspend any and all on-air advertising with the Rush Limbaugh radio program, citing “inflammatory comments” coupled with valuable feedback from both clients and employees. This news comes from Cleveland Cavaliers majority owner and Quicken Loans CEO Dan Gilbert.
Limbaugh, a nationally-syndicated political radio personality who lasted all of three weeks as a color commentator for Monday Night Football, derided a Georgetown University law student, who was a representative in a contraception hearing, as a “slut” in addition to other comments which have drawn the ire of many.
How long the company will suspend advertising on the radio program is yet to be determined.

Seconded
Smart move.
Just just the Cavs, but Quicken Loans as well.
*NOT just the Cavs…
Now HERE’s a good time for suspending comments. It’s about to get all political up in here.
You guys know the rules. Abuse privileges and lose privileges.
Or we can just give a +1 to people rejecting ridiculously sexist rhetoric and move on to talk about tonight’s game against the Bulls. I’ll start.
Joakim Noah loves sexist radio rants, discuss.
You’re not helping Eli 🙂
Entrapment!!
Cograts for pulling your ads… Limbaugh is a vile man and is not good for any company with ethics! May your team have great success!
Awesome decision, and very gutsy. This makes me very proud to be Cavs fan.
Please do not renew any sponsorships for Rush Limbaugh. Never. Ever.
Smart move. Though this is hardly the first incredibly offensive, despicable and reprehensible thing Rush Limbaugh has said. He spews this vile every day and has for years. It’s what made him famous and what he has made hundreds of millions of dollars doing.
Sure…
Seriously, either green light the political talk, or terminate the discussion altogether. This is not going to be good.
I happen to agree with Rush. I do not believe my tax dollars should go to enable anybody’s promiscuous behavior.
is it April 1st, 2011 again?
Twidget: Would you rather be on the hook for an unwanted child cared for by society? Or, how about for welfare for a single mom and child?
For all your fears about that sort of thing I only see 1 or 2 comments that might need to be nuked. I think you’re overreacting and this is the SA/4Chan forums, so relax.
Besides, whenever anyone thread hijacks by being asinine to anything I say it’s never considering thread-hijacking. If you’re going to lead a crusade like this, be consistent.
WFNY Edit: You too. Consider this your final warning.
kudos to Quicken Loans.
WFNY readers should know that we do not tolerate or foster political/belief-based discussion. We’re adults here. If one can’t control themselves, I recommend clicking the X or red dot in the corner of your browser and move along.
Whether or not you agree with the underlying premise, the premise is not the reason that the Cavs and Quicken Loans pulled their advertising. I hesitate to use Rush’s words here because they might be against WFNY’s family-friendly policy, but here goes and I understand if the comment gets deleted.
In response to this woman testifying about birth control in front of Congress Rush called her a “slut”, a “prostitute”, questioned whether her parents were proud of raising such a big slut, said that if her health care covered birth control she should – as recompense – post sex tapes of herself online, and then said that it was shocking that she could still stand because of how much sex she was having.
No advertiser should associate themselves with that kind of bile.
I appreciate your defense, oribiasi. Just don’t err on the side of encouragement.
I can respect that. I can’t respect calling a woman that would use contraception a “slut,” a “prostitute,” and then muse that said woman should “make pornography.”
Thank you for suspending all on-air advertising on the Limbaugh show. I hope you consider cancelling all advertising. Mr. Limbaugh is entitled to a civil discourse on any topic, however when his talk turns vile and repulsive, it’s time to consider cancelling his show.
I was replying to Twidget. My comment makes no sense without his initial comment. Please delete this. Thank you.
So happy to hear this.
one thing: birth control has numerous, significant, and well-documented health benefits that are unrelated to contraception.
that is all.
Good.
So I guess I’m one of the few regulars around here that’s actually, you know, disappointed that the Cavs/Quicken Loans caved?
I’m rarely known for being helpful. America!
Thank you for not supporting hate speech, Cavs.
Rush Limbaugh calls it as he sees it, as does Dan Gilbert. This was probably some PR move to ‘save face’.
Rush Limbaugh is a racist and anti-women. He has caused too much pain and slander to many innocent people, including the president of this great country. He has said an enormous amount of lies everyday about our president and now is attacking an innocent young woman who speaking about a very important issue about women’s health and life. The things Rush Limbaugh says everyday are vile and repulsive! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH! It is time for him to be removed from the airwaves. I will not support the companies that advertise on his station and Clear Channel is an embarrassment to our society!
Personally I’ve been hoping for some self-inflicted indiscretion to marginalize this grotesque blowhard for a long time. This unpleasant man has been the principle choreographer for the shock troops of the far right for years… and he remains the original ‘prime mover’ for much of the hate and toxic tirade disguised as “entertainment” and “satire” that spews from the media with increasing virulence.
Although I’m a dedicated supporter of the 1st Amendment, I do not believe that it applies to the act of shouting non-factual, mendacious political excrement in a ‘crowded theater’. So I will enthusiastically support the boycott of this insufferable gas-bag’s sponsors and keep my fingers crossed. Hopefully, one of the spiteful, sardonic heads of the hydra-headed propaganda demon of the Republican Party may be partially muffled.
Rush is the slut and prostitute, he sells his lies and foul mouth on his show every day.
Your false martyrdom is redundant and boring, Ignatius.
And every coin has two sides.
about time. get this drug abuse misogynist off the air
Come on, man. You can’t post something clearly political – based on one of the hottest-button political issues today – under the guise of “Cavs News,” and not expect people to have a politics-based response. You either have to let the politcal discussion flow, or cut it off at the source.
The one thing that makes WFNY so great is that it provides (most of) us an opportunity to find common ground on common passions, ignoring the things that would otherwise divide us. For every person that has an opinion about what Rush Limbaugh said, there’s another that has an opinion about what the woman who testifed (and her handlers) said. Let’s avoid both positions and instead argue over whether Griffin has a laser rocket arm.
Good choice.
My mild comment in support of Limbaugh’s position was blocked while all the vitriol against him is freely featured here. And you claim that this isn’t a political forum.
I’m shocked they let you use the computer so long today Garry! Good behavior, I’m sure.
Remember: you love 4-12 teams and are perfectly fine with losing more games than the year before. From that starting point, your ideas can go anywhere!
WFNY, to be fair, you asked for it in linking a political story here. To “punish” your readers for commenting on a political story in a way you don’t agree with is a little silly, but its your site and you can choose to enforce the rules when convenient and when not to. Just remember the do unto others rule.
