The Ohio State Buckeyes’ season ended tonight in the Superdome, victims of a 64-62 defeat at the hands of the Kansas Jayhawks, who will face the Kentucky Wildcats Monday night in the National Championship Game. The Bucks led by 13 at one point in the second half and 9 at the half. But, the Buckeyes shot just 8-of-33 (24%) in the second half and the Buckeye dynamic duo struggled to score all night long. William Buford came up huge to lead the team with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting. But, Sullinger was 5-for-19 and Thomas was 3-for-14 and battled foul trouble. For Kansas, their star Thomas Robinson came up big with 19 points on 8-of-18 shooting, and defensively Jeff Withey had 7 blocked shots, many of them on Sullinger. The Buckeyes finish the year 31-8 with a Big Ten co-championship and a Final Four trip under their belts.

Horrible late game execution by OSU, that was a huge factor in the game.
As an apologist for most things Ohio I have to say that I don’t like Mattaball. Granted he’s done more to make Ohio State B-ball relevant than anyone in my lifetime, but I think his game day strategies are bad. He’s a great recruiter, and he wants to play physical hardcore D, yet he struggles to run more than a 6-7 man rotation, which leads to heavy fatigue for the starters late in games. He seems incapable of making in game adjustments especially in the second half. He really reminds me of Billy Donovan, a guy who is a very good recruiter/ decent coach that needs to find the exact perfect pieces to makeit all fall together.
The inconsistent play caught up at the worst time.
Late game??? Ohio State missed their first 10 shots of the 2nd half. If they played 40% of their shorts EARLY in the 2nd half, “late game” would not have mattered.
