Abreu trade on hold: Indians make roster moves, one spot in pen and one in OF remain

Piecing together various reports around the Tribe beat reporter universe, it appears that OF Russ Canzler, RP Nick Hagadone, C Luke Carlin, INF Andy LaRoche, and pitchers Chris Ray, Chris Seddon and Robinson Tejada have been sent back to the minor leagues. OF Felix Pie and C Matt Pagnozzi will remain with the team until the end of spring training, but will not be on the big league club.

GM Chris Antonetti said today that INF Jason Donald and RP Dan Wheeler have made the club. Additionally, the proposed trade between the Indians and Angels for OF Bobby Abreu has hit a snag according to multiple reports. Antonetti said Shelley Duncan will be on the team, and the final OF spot is down to Ryan Spilborghs and Aaron Cunningham.

The three pitchers still in the mix for the final bullpen spot are Jeremy Accardo, Frank Herrmann and newly acquired Jairo Asencio.

Of course, these position battles are just for the Opening Day line-up. The shuttle between Columbus and Cleveland will likely thrive again this season.

Wow it really looked to me like Hagadone was ready for the big leagues. The thought of having either Cunningham or Spilborghs  on the roster isn’t very settling to me either.

I like Herrmann or Accardo for the last pen spot. Herrmann was here last year and he seems to be a solid major league reliever. Accardo is having a pretty good spring though so I wouldn’t mind seeing what he has to offer.

Think a roster spot may still be up for grabs. Donald makes the team as does duncan, but duncan is the starting LF now. Donald and marson are the only confirmed bench guys. One of Cunningham/Spillbourghs makes 3. Still missing the 4 bench guy. Lopez sounds like he could have it but nothing has been confirmed…
