Antonetti: Fausto Carmona is Officially Roberto Hernandez
February 14, 2012The Best Browns Since 1999 – Right Tackle
February 14, 2012Alex Mack dominated the voting receiving 83% of the first place votes. I’ve always said that Alex Mack could very easily be considered the greatest legacy that Eric Mangini leaves on the Cleveland Browns. The Browns center has taken one trip to the Pro Bowl and seems poised to hold down the Browns center position with toughness and heart for the foreseeable future.
Jeff Faine is a perfect example of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The Notre Dame product was drafted 21st in the 2003 NFL draft and played 36 games in three years before being traded on draft day to New Orleans. New Orleans was the team that lost their center, LeCharles Bentley to the Browns in free agency. Faine is currently with the Tampa Bay Bucs.
Hank Fraley was brought to Cleveland from the Eagles where he was the odd man out. The Browns seemed to be unable to find anyone to play center as LeCharles Bentley went down with what would eventually be a career-ending knee injury. What was an odd man out in Philly turned out to be a savior in Cleveland. Fraley played 16 games for three straight seasons and then played a bit of right guard alongside Alex Mack in his rookie season. Fraley was eventually cut but his contributions were well-appreciated by Browns fans.
LeCharles Bentley is next up on the list. He never actually played a game for the Browns, but he was a hometown favorite and a Pro Bowler when he signed his deal to play for the Browns in his prime. It wasn’t meant to be as Bentley went down to a knee injury and then added on staph infections until his career was ended for good.
Dave Wohlabaugh was the first center for the Browns after returning in 1999. He played three seasons for the Browns.
Melvin Fowler was a third round draft choice for the Browns in 2002. He played two seasons as a backup at guard and center and then started one year at center. He was then traded to the Minnesota Vikings.
Offensive Line – Left Tackle | Left Guard | Center | Right Guard | Right Tackle
