Are the Cavs Just One Piece Away?
February 6, 2012WKYC: Chances of Cleveland-hosted Super Bowl Improving
February 6, 2012League-wide free agency begins March 13th. The Browns have stated all along they prefer to build the team through the draft, but will take a look at the players available in free agency. Obviously the team needs to upgrade the receiving corps. This is one hole that more than likely needs to be filled with both a draft choice and a free agent acquisition.
So who is available this off-season and who should the Browns target? Let’s take a look at the list:

Interesting that both Welker and Manningham, who are getting so much discussion following their play in the Super Bowl are both free agents.
A number of these players will obviously sign with their original team. I’d be very surprised if D. Bowe, S. Johnson and B. Lloyd changed teams. All three could be looking at the franchise tag. Guys like Welker and Colston you would also figure to stay in their current situation, even if that means not taking the highest possible dollar.
So who do I think might make it to the open market?
It sounds like Vincent Jackson could potentially be available, but it would be a bank breaking contract. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Manningham available as well.
The Peyton Manning situation could determine whether Garcon is staying or going. He’s a guy that I think could help the Browns, and wouldn’t cost an arm and a leg.
One move I’d love to see the Browns make is to drive the cost of Mike Wallace up. He has the straight speed that the Browns have needed since returning to the league, and if the Steelers decided not to match an offer nobody would be upset having him on the team.
Who on this list would you like to see the Browns go after in free agency?

“rice rocket”
Racism much?
Bring Ginn and Manningham back to NE Ohio.
Good thing Norwood is restricted. Would hate to lose him.
And I wouldn’t mind a flier on Anthony Gonzalez.
#1 D- Jackson. #2 Pierre. #3 Manningham. #4 sign Hillis #5 sign DQ #6 Sign DE Super Mario from Texens #7 Sign McNabb. #8 DRAFT RG3 #9 Right Tackle #10 win games
Though I would hate having a Steeler, mike Wallace would sure look good jumping into the DAWG POUND for us!
What are you Braylons BF? Sure are defending him a lot. He sucks! not worth the 3rd overall period!
i like mike wallace, sim, pson, manningham, oooo wht the hecck cann anyone catch i want them lol
how about we draft griifin the 3rd at QUARTERBACK, we sign manningham and or the reciever from indy and simpson from cinncy and resisn hillis and draft a good rb late
As a Giants fan first, and a Browns fan second, I would love, if the Giants decide not to pursue the likely too-expensive Manningham, for him to land in Cleveland. I don’t see him coming back to New York, no matter how much of a hero he is at the moment, given the incoming problems of paying Victor Cruz and JPP. He’s a solid #2 receiver, relegated to #3 on the Giants due to the incredible Cruz+Nicks tandem. McCoy throwing to Blackmon, Manningham and Little sounds pretty good to me.
I think that since Mario is from Warren Ohio he may want to come back home
I want the ‘other’ Mario free agent that is from Richlands, NC
The guys that I would love to see…
Garcon is obviously a consistent threat, with great speed and reliable hands. I’m not sure I see him (Or Wayne) leaving Indy, however. Most of the high profile guys (DeSean Jackson, Mike Wallace, Bowe, Welker) are not going anywhere, and most may even receive the franchise tag for their respective teams.
Vincent Jackson is rumored to be out, but the price for him is way too high, and we have too many needs to break the bank on a single receiver.
The guys that I would most like to see in a browns uniform, realistically, are: Danny Amendola, Laurent Robinson, Robert Meachem, Steve Smith, Donnie Avery, maybe even Mark Clayton? These are all talented players who are buried on their respective teams, and who can make an immediate impact in Cleveland. For the price of a high-profile player like Vincent Jackson, we could pick up two of these guys.
Just think about it. Would you rather have Vincent Jackson along with the limited talent currently on the roster? Or how about Robert Meachem, Danny Amendola in the slot, Greg Little, Ben Watson, and Evan Moore? Sounds like a pretty decent receiving corp to me.
