Kyrie Irving Delivers Hope for Cleveland Fans
January 17, 2012Elias: Kyrie Irving Enters Cavaliers’ Record Books
January 17, 2012Piling on the latest mock draft from Sporting News, we have NFL.com’s Steve Wyche who echoes sentiments that the Cleveland Browns will select Baylor’s Robert Griffin III in the first round.
However, one element that is different between Wyche and SN is the fact that Wyche feels the Browns will select the electric quarterback with the second-overall pick in the first round after trading with the St. Louis Rams. Per Wyche:
Several teams are going to try and move up to get Griffin but the Browns have the most ammo — the fourth overall pick and a late first-rounder or high picks in later rounds. Cleveland needs Griffin — and wants him, according to league sources — and the Rams will still get their man.
So there you have it, Browns fans. Call off the Draft Combine and get those jerseys printed.

Hell no u don’t give up your 2 first rounders for rg3 .if your gonna do that u might as well trade for luck
Disagree here. If you have any doubts on your QB- and your a liar if you say you dont- then that is your biggest problem. The QB makes the whole offense work, and this league is about offense. When the O falters, you lose. No one cares how lights out your D is. To win a SB you need to have a great O, and a great O comes from a great QB. Look at Houston. AJ goes down and they hardly falter. Schaub gets banged up and they go from top seed in the AFC to 4th to knocked out.
i’m not sure how you wasted the 2012 season by adding upgraded talent to every position in need of making a stellar team and saved your draft picks in doing it.
unlike the NBA FA’s will go wherever they are paid in the NFL
define for me “mediocre” …because if that is 8-8 next year with a shot at the playoffs, i’ll take it.
and if you are mediocre with just the QB needed like i said…SELL THE FARM. trade every pick you have to get into the top 10 in 2013.
So this Wyche guy quoting “league sources” that the Browns want him, must be something there. While the body of last season is barely cold, months before the team scouts meet with their reports, way before the combine or interviews. So, who’s the source, the player’s newly hired agent? A pal of Wyche in the Rams’ FO using him to drum up the price and score a bunch of high picks?
Silly Season used to start two weeks before the draft. Thanks to this kind of secret source drivel and the internet now it never stops.
sorry, AMC, wouldn’t have posted mine if I had seen yours. 100% accord.
Why would we draft OLB and CB before we address offensive skill positions? You even said we lack playmakers, but then dont get any? FAs are not a magic thing. They arent on a roster because of a reason. Your suggestion is to pick up 2 and it magically makes our O good? no, sorry thats not how it works. And I hope they dont throw mad money at a WR and IMO thats the only way we get one of the “top guys” there.
Plugging a deep threat into an offense with a QB that can’t throw over 30 yards will also fix nothing.
I think it’s more laziness than bias.
In truth, he should be compared to Kolb and all the guys in the TxTech/Houston/Baylor offense. The problem is that he’s the first really elusive QB in that group. The rest have been stand and deliver guys.
Stafford doesn’t make Burleson, Pettigrew, Titus Young, Best, and Kevin Smith look good?
I’ll agree that Calvin Johnson is good no matter what though.
yep, that’s the question. Griffin sure has a pretty deep ball, but I remember watching Kolb in college and being amazed at the level of accuracy he had at mid-level slant and out routes.
it’ll be interesting how we evaluate him and how well he scores on our sheets. of course, we have to decide on Flynn nearly 2 months earlier than the draft, so there’s that.
I don’t think RGIII will be rushing for 1st downs and TDs up the middle, which is a HUGE factor in what made Cam so valuable for Carolina this year.
Only three more months to go, Harv.
Absolutely, go up and get him. The only way the Browns have to give up their second pick in the first round is if WA offers a ridiculous amount of picks / players. I couldn’t be happier with this plan if, indeed, the Browns carry it out.
I’d just like to point-out to all the McCoy guys that as soon as he’s done here, he will not ever start in the NFL again as a first string QB for multiple reasons. The kid gave it a shot, kind of got the shaft, and well… not so much.
This league is about offense? Tell that to New Orleans and Green Bay. Only one of the four teams remaining has a great offense (New England). The other three teams are where they are because of their defense.
Yes, you need a decent/competent offense, but a stellar defense is still more important…especially in the playoffs.
Put slightly differently, I would rather have a top tier defense and a mediocre offense than the other way around.
Absolutely. If we are going to have to trade up to get RGIII, might as well go all in and see if we can get Luck.
I don’t really want to do either, but if H & H do, go hard or go home…
Maybe not up the middle, but there is this entire area of the field “off-tackle” that can be used.
We should send Shurmur a memo on Wednesday.
What if it went like this…
1a RG3
1b wright/jeffrey/floyd
2 sanu
3 lemichael james
Offense fixed and loaded with possible playmakers
I respectfully disagree.
FA’s are not on a roster for many reasons including; on-field issues, off-field issues, contract disputes, team franchise tagging someone else etc.
Philadelphia is a good example
of FA’s not equaling instant success, New Orleans is an example of the exact opposite.
You trust your GM to evaluate which FA is needed and why this person is a FA.
I am in the Flynn for QB camp over RG3 for the purposes of him sitting behind one of the best QB’s in the league, practicing and running a variation of our offense in NFL speed circumstances and working everyday with legit offensive weapons versus a project QB that will have to be fit into our program or vice versa with no NFL speed gameplay.
Sam Wyche is alive? Anyways this kind of move wreaks of desperation and is completely opposite to the way H&H have conducted themselves in interviews. This of course means it’ll probably happen. I hope not. In fact I hope Griffin is gone by #4 which includes Dan Snyder making some sort of insane offer to the Browns.
And they never will be if we take this loser, frightened attitude towards drafting a real starting QB
Most of the “we don’t need RG3” we need weapons crowd need to realize:
1. RG3 is the best weapon in the draft
2. You can find WR/RBs in other places
3. This is the most important: You don’t get a chance to draft a franchise changing QB every year, either you don’t draft low enough or the players aren’t there.
There you go threatening to feed people crow again… So unbecoming.
I have no problem selecting RG3 if that’s the way Heckert and Holmgren want to go, but I have a real problem trading in order to do it. The whole last year was based on adding the draft pick this year and I just can’t imagine trading that away for the second best quarterback coming out this year.
Maybe all the upheaval in Indy will put Andrew Luck in play. Otherwise, I’m calling everyone’s bluff and taking the chance that there will be a nice difference-making player available at #4 and another to be had with ATL’s pick.
Well, we’d like to revel in the season itself but its like starring into Medusa’s eyes so I think we’re psychologically better of thinking about the draft.
Oh wait, was I not supposed to respond to your messages? So many rules…yeesh…
At least I’m not feeding them b.s. like the Browns. haha.
You know very well that there were people lined up around the block saying that Newton was too dumb or too whatever to be an NFL QB. I don’t hear anything from those people anymore. I wonder where they went…
Amen, brother. Every now and again you have to make a bet. Pick a hill you want to die on, etc. I see no reason not to pick RGIII unless the asking price is insane.
I’m not at all opposed to trading the second pick in the first round to get him, although I don’t think it’ll take that much. I don’t see what is to be gained by passing-up a possible franchise QB. ATL gets Julio Jones, we get RGIII and a 4th round pick. They get a receiver, we get a guy who touches the ball every down and automatically upgrades all aspects of our once disgusting offense… nice doin’ business witcha!
He is another undersized qb…dont we have enough of those?!
Don’t think that we will trade up for RG III. Only really Washington may be desperate enough to trade up for him. H&H have never shown a penchant for trading up in the draft. Washington is probably the front runner along NYJ for Manning. The other will likely get Flynn. That leaves us as the only team (aside from Seattle) that is seriously in the market for a new quarterback…
Our D is a top 10 D already. Yes we have holes to plug in here and there, but until we get an O we are going nowhere. You cannot even call what we put out there an offense half the time. Maybe Im naive, I just think this is the year Heckert focuses primarily on offense the top 3 picks then opens it up.
Cleveland Browns need LB-sized QB’s and speedier TE-sized WR’s!!!!!
idk if u ppl have even watched griffin play. kids gonna be a star
Stay away from Floyd. He looks great on paper but lacks the mental toughness to play in the NFL….
Agreed! too many holes to fill to give up picks…
Our pass D only looked good cuz teams ran all over us And didnt need to pile on pass yrds. Late game tea
Ms just ran to kill clock.
