Looking far into the crystal ball- “Heading into the summer of 2013 (approximate $62 million cap), Cleveland’s existing obligations (and salaries) would be Anderson Varejao ($9.1 million), Kyrie Irving ($5.9 million), Harrison Barnes ($4.6 million), Tristan Thompson ($4.3 million), Cole Aldrich ($3.2 million), and Reggie Jackson ($1.3 million). After almost knocking off the Heat in the first round of the 2013 playoffs (ultimately wearing them down, leading to a third straight Finals defeat), the Cavs use the 15th pick in the draft to choose Brazilian seven-footer, Fab Melo out of Syracuse. Melo and the other 1st round pick total $3 million. Omri Casspi’s option would not be picked up, and Alonzo Gee was re-signed after 2011 – 2012, starting at $1.5 million per year. Finally, Daniel Gibson would be kept at $3 million per year.” [Hetrick/Cavs the Blog]

“I’ll confess something that’s probably obvious by anybody still reading this far: I’ve never cared for college recruiting in general. For all the hype given to these recruits, the black market which lurks behind this process’ curtains seems to never be explored or mentioned. Chip Kelly — a state employee — authorized the payment of $25,000 to somebody like Willie Lyles. I wonder who was involved in wiring $25,000 of taxpayer money to him? On another note, am I supposed to believe Cecil Newton letting Mississippi State know it would “take more than a scholarship” to secure his son’s services as something that isn’t routinely happening at every major program in America? Am I not supposed to wonder about what kind of systems would have to be in place for a man to even request that of somebody, much less a college recruiter? Am I then supposed to believe Cecil Newton’s church — after years of being unable to afford repairs to keep their Church up to code — suddenly found $50,000 to do so after Cam Newton signed with Auburn? Also, would there any better organization to launder money through than a church? I can’t think of one. But hey, why do actual journalism, when there are stripper’s abortions and sensualistic page-view grabs (which in turn means $$$$) cloaked as “hard-hitting, investigative journalism”. It truly takes a moron to be surprised by any of this once the entire scope of it all is taken into context.” [DJ/Eleven Warriors]

Reasons for hope in ’12 for the Tribe- “1. Expanded playoffs. As of this writing, Major League baseball is still debating whether to add a second Wild Card team in 2012 or 2013. There is significant momentum towards the expansion happening in 2012. Should it come to fruition this year, the Indians won’t even need to beat out the Tigers. As long as the Tribe takes care of their own business, they can sneak into the playoffs while the Yankees, Red Sox, and Rays beat up on each other in the East and the Rangers and Angels do the same in the West. At that point, anything is possible.” [Dew/Indians Prospect Insider]

Could the 76ers be a potential trade partner?- “That leaves the team having to look outside the organization for help, and the pickings are rather meager. “The question is then ‘who’s out there that is going to be able to come in and help you’,” Collins bluntly stated before the game. “The chances of someone like that coming in and helping you are rather slim. As much as anything, and it sounds silly, but we need another big guy, if we could, to come in so our guys on off days can play 3-on-3,” Collins explained. “if we could get the depth just so those guys can get some extra work [it] would be nice.” [Bodner/SBNation Philly]

“I stood watching Mike D’Antoni’s pregame press conference and walked away before the game literally feeling sorry for the guy. About an hour later, I finally asked myself why it was I cared exactly? I suppose I don’t. But if I did care, I later decided, if I was related to the guy, delivered him newspapers as a kid, or had some remote rooting interesting in his team’s success, I’d feel bad for him as an NBA Coach because he doesn’t have anybody on his team like Anderson Varejao. Nobody even close. For all the high profile stardom that Amar’e Stoudemire and Carmelo Anthony combine to possess, even in today’s NBA, you can’t go out on given nights and fake heart, you can’t fake pride, you can’t fake that will and sheer desire to win, and you can’t fake the overwhelming belief in your teammates that elevates the play of everybody else around you.” [Bowers/Stepien Rules]

Finally, Dan Gilbert tweeted a picture of an empty toilet paper roll. Nobody knows why- “We don’t know why Cleveland Cavalier owner Dan Gilbert’s Twitter account posted a strange picture on his feed sometime late on Wednesday night. We do know that, whether that was his artful and William Eggleston-take on a middling life spent in hotel rooms, or the odd work of some Twitter hacker, we loved the shot. Even if it’s since been deleted.
A random shot of something nonsensical, and not exactly of any interest to anyone of someone’s followers on a social networking site? That’s more or less what the Internet was made for. My Twitter feed is full of these bits of boredom turned into selfish fun, and I don’t see why anyone else can’t harbor the same sense of self-involved humor. After all, it’s your site. Everyone else gets to decide whether or not they want a part of your weirdness.” [Dwyer/Ball Don’t Lie]

That piece by KD was bad in subject matter and content.
A statement that could easily be applied to most everything he puts his name on.
Then there’s this link that says Childress is pretty much assumed OC now:
