January 20, 2012Pena to the Rays: So Now What, Tribe Fans?
January 20, 2012Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting that the Tampa Bay Rays have signed 1B Carlos Pena. The deal is reported to be one year for $7.25 million. The Indians were rumored to be among those interested in Pena.
The Tribe’s first base situation has been discussed over and over. Our own TD called Pena the second best candidate for the Indians just last week. (Out of Carlos Lee, Pena, Kotchman and Derrek Lee.)
Pena, a left-handed hitting, former gold glove winner, hit 28 homers in Chicago last year at age 33 and has averaged 34 homers and 97 RBIs over the last five seasons.

You know what makes you feel old?
Growing up watching Carlos Pena play, and then realizing today that junior is in his mid 30s about to head down the backside of the hill that is his career.
And watching a movie that involves his rookie season… 11 years ago !
I’m not going to lie, his Moneyball involvement made me more interested him. Maybe we can still sign Scott Hatteberg.
Just sign Manny already.
