Box Score: Cavaliers 102, Bobcats 94
January 16, 2012While We’re Waiting… Dwight Howard to the Cavaliers (ha), Cleveland State Hoops and Changing Wrigley?
January 17, 2012At halftime, I told them that if we were going to win this game we would have play defense. If we play defense then we will have the opportunity to score and win the game and, but we have to do a better job at defending. In the second half [the Bobcats] only scored 37 points so we did do a better job than how we did in the first half.
– Cavs head coach Byron Scott following his team’s win over the Charlotte Bobcats. The Cavs were down 14 points in the third quarter.

I liked Scott and thought he was a good hire I just wish it had been a year or two earlier. Things might have been different.
Shamrock, I feel your annoyance with Mike Brown because I am still pretty miffed by his horrible playoff coaching, but I don’t think Byron Scott would have been a good solution. Imagine LBJ having to submit to the authority of Byron Scott, something that Scott has always required from his players and which was the main reason for his butting heads with Baron Davis years ago. A young BD thought he knew best and wanted to control his team and their offense. LBJ is the same way… nobody tells him how to run an offense. Not Mike Brown. Not Erik Spoelstra. Not anyone (except maybe D-Wade).
Anyway, my main thought from the road trip was that it was great to see the Cavs battle back against the Lakers and the Bobcats. In both games the Cavs were down a bunch of points in the 3rd quarter, then came back to lose and win close games. When Kobe has a shooting night like he did on Friday, there’s not much you can do, but the Cavs didn’t give up. I like that. I want to see more of that, so long as it’s not a trend.
