Congrats Delonte! Looks like Cleveland may continue rooting for Dallas a bit- “The Mavericks have addressed their backup point-guard situation by agreeing to Delonte West on a free-agent contract. The 6-4 guard has played for three different teams in his seven-year NBA career, including two stints with Boston. He played only 24 games last season with Boston, averaging 5.6 points and 2.7 assists. For his career, he’s averaged 9.7 points and 3.6 assists in 388 games. He’s also a 37.3 percent 3-point shooter.” [Sefko/Dallas News]

“I received a no comment from within the Indians’ front office when I asked the same question. Truth be told, if there’s a first baseman who is deemed available, chances are that the Indians are inquiring. Trumbo and Morales are interesting options. I’m not sure the Tribe has the type of prospects to swing a deal for Trumbo, barring a subtraction from the Major League roster. Morales might be a more realistic target, but at this point I’m not sure where the Indians’ interest level stands.” [Bastian/MLB.com]

Great. Now there will be more fake twitter accounts- “The 76ers launched a fan voting contest last week to choose a new team mascot between three finalists. But the team failed to get the nominees on social media, so the 23-year-old Rizzo and his friend Hunter Coleman, a 22-year-old teacher, registered Twitter accounts for two of the finalists, @PhilEMoose and @BFranklinDogg. They began tweeting from the accounts trying to help promote the contest and drive fan engagement. On Friday, however, they received an official email praising their loyalty to the team but requesting that they hand over the accounts, “pleasantly without the use of lawyers or anything like that.”
Hours later, Rizzo — a communications graduate and self-described “social media sponge” who was at the time interning with a media group — called the organization to see what they wanted to do with the account. The team eventually offered them “a fair deal” — the box seats and tickets for potentially doing more work with the team — and Rizzo and his partner gave up the accounts.” [Laird/Mashable] (H/T Jacob Rosen)

Video included- “I thought it was cool when Andy was talking about how he didn’t know how to speak English when he first arrived in Cleveland and Zydrunas Ilgauskas helped him make that transition. Sort of offers an illustration on what guys mean when they say Big Z was a good teammate too. As with that example, he did things like order guy’s salads for them and translated dinner menus to foreign languages he doesn’t even speak being from Lithuania if that’s what his teammates needed him to do.” [Bowers/Stepien Rules]

Urban does know that you can’t sign 50 kids for 20 spots in the Big Ten right? – “What has quickly become bizzarro world only a month ago Ohio State was looking at what was one of their worst looking recruiting classes in a long time. Then rumors started floating around that Urban Meyer was going to be our next head coach. Shortly after the rumors started Adolphus Washington and Riquan Southward both gave verbals to OSU. Those are 2 very good 4* recruits. Then Meyer was actually hired and instantly applied for and received an exemption from the NCAA to allow him and anyone he hires to focus on recruiting while Coach Fickel handles day to day and bowl prep. Some schools cried foul I am looking at you scUM. Others followed suit TaMu, UCLA, Illinois, and others. Coach Meyer has just been a kid in a candy store calling recruits and visiting them and having them visit OSU. Earlier tonight he got a verbal from a 5* who always like OSU to flip from Penn State and then tonight while on a home visit to Canton, Ohio he got his second commit of the day and this is a flip too and the new OSU recruit is…..” [Rambo/Men of the Scarlet and Gray]

Urban Meyer is an opponent of oversigning and Florida has never once oversigned in any of the years Meyer was his coach. There is still plenty of room in this years recruiting class. Just so you know.
Hard to imagine Varejao being more media friendly. Very loveable and chill.
Also, note how he periodically massages his left shoulder after Austin hugs him. Training camp soreness already. We hope.
That does seem a bit like tampering with Meyer having extra time to recruit players. I feel we would be outraged if rolls were reversed. Too bad none of our professional franchises have this pull.
Hopefully Delonte can stay healthy this year and I have another reason to root for the Mavs.
Go Urban go!
if all Urban does is be a figurehead for recruits and hires great coaches to do the dirty work, then his hire will be successful.
