“The University of Akron won one football game in 2011. A few of you knew that. Most of you didn’t — or more likely didn’t care. Terry Bowden knows all of that, certainly he does now. Bowden was hired as Akron’s new coach last week, a month after the job came open and a week or so after he was first contacted about the opening. He was introduced by the school at a news conference Wednesday. He’d been coaching at Division II North Alabama.
But he made his name in the 1990s in the SEC, at Auburn. And I North Alabama is 500 football miles from the football hotbed that won the BCS championship just a season ago, Akron is 5,000 miles away from it.” [Jackson/FSO]

Looks like the Buckeyes will have an even better 2013 class- “At linebacker Ohio State is looking good for 2013 with the top prospects on the board being Fort Wayne (IN) Bishop Luer’s Jaylon Smith, Indianapolis (IN) Warren Central’s Tim Kimbrough, Trotwood Madison’s Michael McCray, Youngstown Cardinal Mooney’s Courtney Love, Miami (FL) Northwestern’s Jaquintin Victrum, Dayton Chaminade Julienne’s Darrien Howard, and Hudson’s Ben Gedeon.
The Buckeyes are in pretty good shape with Smith, who is the brother of OSU running back Rod Smith, and I expect him to be a Buckeye sometime before summer. Kimbrough and McCray (Buckeye legacy) are both very high on Ohio State and if offered, I expect both to be Buckeyes. Howard and Gedeon are probably next in line to end up in Columbus, although it is not certain if they will be offered. Gedeon claims to have just been offered by Urban Meyer, but I still see him as a secondary option and likely to end up with Michigan. Finally, Love is a longer shot to get an offer, while I expect Victrum to either stay in the south or play for Charlie Strong at Louisville, where some of his former Northwestern teammates are currently freshmen.” [Eleven Warriors]

Not gonna happen. “Wednesday came and went, and the quarterback situation doesn’t look like it will be changing this week. When asked about the status of quarterback Colt McCoy, head coach Pat Shurmur said that second-year quarterback still has not been medically cleared to practice. “In terms of injuries, Colt McCoy has not been medically cleared to play yet,” said Shurmur. “When he is, at that time we’ll talk about his availability for Sunday and his role. At this point there’s nothing more to say.” [Pokorny/Dawgs by Nature]

Had he had a little more protection, I’m sure Colt would have sprung for propane grills with a full line of propane accessories.

For the record, those aren’t just “charcoal grills.” That’s a Big Green Egg – and anyone I’ve ever met that has one swears it’s about the greatest thing ever. If my brother had his way, he’d never use his oven and cook everything on the Egg. Sure it’s a grill, but the way it’s built, it’s practically a perfect smoker with temperature control that most barrel smokers can’t even touch.
They’re not cheap, especially the large one as shown in that picture (at least, not for those of us with non-NFL salaries), and being from a state that things they invented BBQ, it strikes me as being a reasonable thought for Colt to think of for a gift – want to bet they used one at “Camp Colt” over the summer? I don’t know what the usual gift from the QB is, but from my completely non-professional football player position, that’s a damn good gift.
Pashos didn’t deserve one he’s the major offender in getting McCoy featured.
Referring to The Green Egg as simply a “charcoal grill” shows lack of knowledge of the product. My position is the same as Clems, a damn fine gift.
From the headline, I was expecting to see metal teeth; this makes more sense.
