Kyrie Irving Provides Cleveland With a Taste of What’s to Come
December 19, 2011Projecting the Browns Pass Rush
December 19, 2011Congratulations to horace who was the winner of Friday’s drawing. A pair of tickets to a Cavs game are going his way.
Let’s get right to today’s giveaway. As always, here is the way the contest works-
Every weekday from now until Christmas Eve, we will give away a Cleveland themed prize. To enter, you need only to respond in the comment section in the appropriate manner. The winner each day will be randomly selected and notified by email. (Which means you better make sure that the email address you use to comment here is a legit one.) I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas. Some of the prizes (like tickets) haven’t even been printed and mailed to us yet. We’ll do our best with the things we have in hand though. Only one member of a household can enter each day, and only one winner per household during the length of this contest. Just spreading the love around.
Today’s Prize–
Since this video hit the net, the Browns still haven’t won a game. The factory is still pumping. Today we are giving away a Factory of Sadness t-shirt and a copy of Joe Tait’s book with Terry Pluto- “It’s Been a Real Ball”. Joe Tait saw a lot of bad games in his career. It seems like a natural pairing.
Today’s question–
It’s a simple question that may not have such a simple answer. Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Comments must be posted by midnight Cleveland time in order to qualify for the drawing. Check back tomorrow at noon for the results. Remember, only one entry is allowed, but you may still comment to add to the discussion.

Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
because i grew up watching the browns and my dad always taught me that although sometimes you can’t get the best things in life, you should be thankful for what you’re given and eat what’s in front of you because you never know when you won’t even have that. 1996 comes to mind.

Loyalty and pride in my hometown. I’m proud of where I’m from and how I’ve been raised. Sure it’s been tough, but when we finally get to the top, it will be awesome! Until then, I’ll just keep waiting for next year!
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I support the Browns year after year firstly, because it was how I was raised. Our family has always bled brown & orange, and my best sports memories as a kid always involve the Browns. I can’t imagine rooting for any other team…they are MY team. Cheering for the Browns is something that our family can do together that brings us closer. And, since we know we are loyal fans, we are allowed to complain about them like ornery children when they misbehave. Secondly, I support the Browns because I strive to be a loyal and committed person, not only in sports, but in life. It’s hard to stick by a team that loses and hasn’t been to the Superbowl, but sticking by them through thick and thin (and thinner) will make our championship that much sweeter when it comes. Loyalty and working through something tough seem to be lacking in society today. Nothing good ever comes easy, and great things are worth fighting for. I know this sounds melodramatic..but I mean it. I love our Cleveland Browns!!

Because there is no other choice. You can’t pick your family and you can’t pick your team once it’s become a part of you.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Born and raised here it will always be my team. Can’t wait till they’re good it’s going to be even sweeter.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I support this team because I’m not a front-running fan. I wouldn’t be able to stand myself if I went over and started rooting for the Steelers, then when the Browns start winning jump back on ship. BROWNS FOR LIFE!!!
I continue to watch the browns, year after year, because the browns are my connection to my beloved hometown Cleveland. When I call home to talk to Dad or Grandpa, it’s what we talk about. Browns football is part of life for clevelanders. I’ve been hooked since the teams of the 80’s.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I was born into it, but somehow every year I think we have a chance. I want to see a champion in cleveland. I want to see people start to be front runners and I will welcome them on the bandwagon when the team is good. I cannot see myself picking a random team to root for with no ties whatsoever to them. Also, if your whole family is rooting for the team, it is something to bond over.
I DON’T KNOW. LEAVE ME ALONE.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
…because it’s the right thing to do. I was raised in a household that held Cleveland sports above all else. Now, living and working in Pittsburgh, it’s important to me that I not lose that in the face of all the idiots I see and deal with on a daily basis. It’s an honorable thing to be a Cleveland Browns fan…to quote the motto of my fraternity “My honor is dearer than my life.”
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I root for the Browns because I love football and they are the Ohio team (Cincinnati doesn’t count). My grandfather was a fan, my Dad is a fan, I’m a fan. My best friends are fans. You know how they say misery loves company? I think that actually applies here. I enjoy being able to make jokes at the team’s expense after a loss, as a way of coping with disappointment. And when they do manage to pull out a win, it makes it better to share the joy with other elated fans.
And I’m an optimist who believes things will get better, so I always look forward to…next year.
Q: Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
A: I can’t help but bleed orange & brown through and through. It was passed on to me by my dad who ironically is now more an OSU fan than Browns fan, but I’m still here every year. I go to games, Browns events and collect Browns memorabilia. It’s just ingrained in me at this point.

I was at the game yesterday in AZ getting this question a lot – Because I was unlucky enough to be from Cleveland. I can’t help myself but believe that some day it’s gonna be worth it
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because of Scott Raab’s opening story in The Whore of Akron.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because I have to. Maybe it’s a sickness, but I care about the Cleveland Browns more than any other entertainment I have enjoyed in my entire life. I can go entire seasons without seeing games by other teams that I have been excited about in previous segments of my life, but the three years the Browns were gone was definitely like living in the Twilight Zone. I named my first dog after a Browns player. In my lifetime, we got “close” only a couple times, yet we all continue to invest our lives. Hopefully, in my lifetime, we are rewarded.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
It’s my team. It’s my city. I was late to the party, since I don’t remember the team before it moved but once I started rooting for them, it was all over.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I’m stupid
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I don’t know. I honestly don’t. Sometimes I don’t want to. But every Sunday, there I am, rooting my heart out for them no matter how miserable the team is. Maybe one day it’ll pay off. Maybe one day…
I can’t help but look to promising parts to keep an eye out for production. Like promising tight ends, the production of our recent draft picks like Haden, Sheard, and Taylor. The continual development and attempts at success are more intriguing than being certain for a competitive product at this point.

If you love football, and can’t be there to support your own city’s team, what’s the point? The Browns represent our town and our livelihood. They help make Cleveland what it is. The least we can do is support them. Plus, why wouldn’t I want to be there when the tides change and we start to win?!
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Of course I support them. Why? Loyalty. I’m Cleveland. They’re Cleveland. I’m a Cleveland Brown. I’ve been a Cleveland Brown longer than everyone on this roster has, and I’ll be one long after they’re gone, I hope. Why am I loyal? I’m loyal because I don’t quit on something because it’s hard. Go Browns!
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Its cleveland sports. Being a fan you know they aren’t going to bring you joy, they may show you that glimpse every once in a while and that’s what keeps you coming back. Always thinking “hey one of these years we’ll definitely get it.”
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I have followed the Browns for 55 years. I was born and raised a Browns fans. I will always follow and support the Browns even though it has been difficult these past several years. We keep waiting for the year when they put it all together.
I’m a browns fan because I was born and raised here and grew up watching them. It’s in my DNA. It’s not because I’m a masochist as steelers fans seem to beleive. To be a fan you have to have hope. If cincinatti (where fans barely notice they have a team) can turn it around overnight , then yes, it will happen in the birthplace of football, probably sooner than most people think. I guess what really keeps me going is the thought of what Cleveland would be like after a superbowl win. We’d make New Orleans look like bingo night at the Polka club.

I continue to support the Browns year after year because the misery caused makes the Cleveland weather seem not so bad by comparison.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because I have to.

Both a difficult question and a “duh” question. Born and raised in Cleveland, it’s in the blood. That’s the “duh” part of the answer. And there is a glimmer every year, till we lose the opener. There are other decent reasons to be a Browns fan….you don’t have to worry about bandwagon douchebags (can I say that?). Living in a different part of the country, it’s easy to be known as Cleveland Mike and people that even HATE me think about me every time the Browns (or any Cleveland team) is mentioned (knowing this is an awesome guilty pleasure). And the (hopefully) eventual payoff of a championship… can you imagine?!? All of this, PLUS the helmet. Go Browns.
I watch every game but wouldn’t spend a penny to buy a ticket.

Sorry if this is a double post, I had to edit a questionable term that probably doesn’t make it past the moderator.
Side note….this site takes FOREVER to load!! ARGH!
My Dad was a Cleveland Browns fan and we use to watch the games together when I was growing up. It was definitely a Father/Daughter bonding time for us. He would get so upset because the Browns always run the ball on first down and get two yards or less and here we are years later and they are still doing it.
I like to tell people that it is easy to be a Steelers or Patriots fan. The wins and the glory will keep those fans coming back for more constantly. It is tough to be a Browns fan. It is a lot of disappointment. The Browns are true underdogs in so many ways, but I love Cleveland Browns football and always will.

It seems like it’s been in my blood since the 80s, and there’s nothing like coming out and supporting the team in December in freezing temperatures, tailgating with G.L. Christmas Ales, alongside other fans who pack the stadium. That, and bringing my NY-er girlfriend along for the ride, who now can say nothing in response when questioned about which football fans in the nation stand the tallest through decades of misery.

I’ve been a Browns fan since childhood and even supported the team when I was living in Pittsburgh during college. Even though the current product on the field is horrible, I know that one day we will be competitive. That gets me through these crappy games. Also, I want to be able to call up my college buddies and mock their team after we beat the Steelers.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
It doesn’t matter what the results are or the product they produce, I love the Browns, always have and always will. I moved from Cleveland when I was 3, but have stayed loyal to all my sports teams for the last 23 years through and through. I am used to the Browns sucking, that is why we have the Buckeyes.
Side note: I enter all of these contests, knowing that all the ones that include sports tickets I would never be able to use, and I would give to one of my family still in Cleveland. This time around, it is an amazing prize I could use myself so please please pick me!!!!

1996-1998 taught me that I can get by without watching the Browns on Sundays. Very rarely since then have they done much to change my way of thinking.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I will always support the Browns. Feeling the excitement of the Kardiac Kids and the Bernie era and the amazing energy it had on Northeast Ohio is why I continue to support the team. Football rules all sports.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I wish that I could quit the Browns… I really do. I moved to NC almost 8 years ago and every Sunday I still have to watch to see how the Browns are doing. My dad raised me on the Browns… it’s almost a rite of passage, so I’ll do the same with my boys. Doesn’t matter how good (or more accurately, awful) they are, they’ll always be my team. They were my first love… I’ll never get over them… even if my wife thinks I’m crazy.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I support them because I’m from Cleveland and I don’t know anything else. I had to move away a few years ago, and rooting for the Browns is a way for me to still stay connected to the city. I don’t have the heart to abandon a team and jump to another.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Loyalty – the Browns are the only NFL team I’ve ever rooted for and that’s the way it’s going to stay. Plus, they will turn it around eventually and I intend to be rooting for them when they do.

Why? Either denial, naivety, or insanity…you choose
Q: Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
A: I do support them, and the reason is very simple: They’re my team. And there is always hope. Even on the most horrible teams, there are bright spots. I see several on this team. Trouble is, they’re all on the defense right now.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because we have the best fans in the world
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because without hope and love, what’s a life worth living ?
Because it is who my grandpa cheered for, who my dad cheers for, and who I grew up rooting for. It is, and forever will be, who I root for. I have a life-long job at the factory of sadness

They told my friend a Marine, that he was dead upon going into the Gulf War. I took his advice and applied it to the Browns. We’re all dead. If they win, it’s a bonus.

This will all be forgotten – and it’ll be that much sweeter when we watch that parade down Euclid Ave.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
reason and logic are used to justify my love for the team. but the love has roots both older and deeper than my faculties of logic or reason, and as such cannot be defined in these terms. might as well ask “why do you like to breathe?” its just part of who we are.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because we’ll always be better than the blowhards in Pittsburgh!
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
I support the Browns because it means going to games with my family and spending quality time with my dad and brother.
Why do support this Browns team year after year without so much as a glimmer of hope on the field? Or do you?
Because I was born in a small town about an hour south of the city, and that’s what you do…..root for the team that is stationed closest to your residence, AND IN YOUR OWN STATE (see what I did there all you Ohio born Pittspuke fans!)…..Sometimes I think about what I would give to have been born and raised a Packers fan, but that would have required I be born in Wisconsin, and that makes me a tiny bit less jealous…..plus the Muni lot…can’t beat it.
