Beanie Wells Praises Browns’ Front Four
December 15, 2011WFNY 2012 Draft Not-so-Big Board 1.1
December 15, 2011Congratulations to Ryan C. for winning yesterday’s contest. Ryan wins a Lake Erie Monsters prize pack.
Let’s get right to today’s giveaway. As always, here is the way the contest works-
Every weekday from now until Christmas Eve, we will give away a Cleveland themed prize. To enter, you need only to respond in the comment section in the appropriate manner. The winner each day will be randomly selected and notified by email. (Which means you better make sure that the email address you use to comment here is a legit one.) I cannot guarantee delivery by Christmas. Some of the prizes (like tickets) haven’t even been printed and mailed to us yet. We’ll do our best with the things we have in hand though. Only one member of a household can enter each day, and only one winner per household during the length of this contest. Just spreading the love around.
Today’s Prize–
We’re giving away another Indians prize pack. A pair of tickets to the see the Tribe plus a copy of Dan Coughlin’s book Pass the Nuts. (Courtesy of Gray and Company Publishers.)
Today’s Question–
Dan’s book is all about the interesting people he’s met while covering sports. What Cleveland athlete(s) have you met? (This would be a good spot for an interesting story if you have one. If you haven’t met a Cleveland athlete, you can answer with I’ve never met a Cleveland athlete.)
Comments must be posted by midnight Cleveland time in order to qualify for the drawing. Check back tomorrow at noon for the results. Remember, only one entry is allowed, but you may still comment to add to the discussion.

I sat next to Bob Sura at a Tribe game (he left in the 7th!). I sat next to Bingo Smith, Nate Thurmand and Austin Carr at the Cavs game when all of their jersey’s were retired at the old Richfield Coliseum. I was pretty young for this one but I remember they were all very nice, we took photos and they signed for me. I also ran into Austin Carr years later at a gym in Solon.
I met many members of the 1996 Indians team during a pre-game batting practice at the Jake; Omar, Kenny, Manny, Julio, Tony Pena, Jim Thome and Julian Taveras really stand out. I was 14 and they were all very nice and took the time to talk with me and my buddy. Thome was my favorite player so he spent a few minutes with us and I got my picture taken with him. Albert Belle was my buddies favorite player but we were instructed to avoid Albert. I have a vivid memory of Omar, Tony Pena and Julian Taveras all joking around with us and talking about the pretty girls in the stands. I also have a memory of Manny talking to us about his AB’s from the night before (Manny was hard to understand though).
I met and had the opportunity to work with Victor Martinez (and Raffy Betancourt)many times. He is a great guy. He is much larger than he appears on television or from the stands. He is very polite and it is very impressive how down to earth he is. It was a real shame that the Indians didn’t try to keep him as an Indian for life (although he did net us Masterson).

I met Hanford Dixon at the holiday inn after a browns cowboy game. He was doing a radio show but took out time to sign a autograph and shake my hand. I told him I named my cat after him because he was my favorite browns player and he laughed but I think he might have thought I was a bit odd, lol.
