While We’re Waiting… ESPN Ban, Trading perez and No More ‘Naps’ on Defense
November 23, 2011“Cursed” Cleveland Sports Might Get a Documentary
November 23, 2011I for one don’t miss the NBA one bit. I divorced myself from the league, its greedy owners and whiny players, just about two months ago, but i’m sure so many of you are missing the game terribly. I have engulfed myself in college basketball – the Maui Invitational has been highly entertaining and tonight’s Kansas/Duke final should be a good one – and I’m happy with my decision.
But for the Cavaliers diehards out there, we’ve got a treat for you. Back on December 5th of 1988, the Cavs were starting to emerge as one of the exciting young teams in the game. The Showtime Lakers came to town which was always an event back then. Magic, Kareem, Big Game James, Byron Scott, and company were the league’s main attraction. But our Cavs weren’t intimidated by the LA star power. I remember….because I was there….
Our own weekend warrior Ben Cox found this gem of a video on youtube and I thought we should share it with all of you. The game came down to the end, and an unlikely hero emerged for the Cavs – Tyrone Corbin.
Enjoy.

so much talent on that floor. A few things jump out at me:
– Lenny had everyone playing so fundamentally sound for such young players. Price eked out every bit from his limited physical ability with cleverness and pure shooting form. Daugherty looks like a big man basketball instructional video.
– Didn’t remember that Hubbard played the same years as this group. Had to have close to the end of his line.
– Corbin was part of Embry’s fruitless search for a real small forward. Ended up having to start so much roster filler there: Corbin, Mike Sanders, Randolph Keys, Winston Bennett … settled for these defensive specialists to shut down the other team’s stars. Hot Rod wasn’t really a small even when they put him out there with Brad and Nance..
TD-
I’m in agreement with you as I too have “divorced” myself from the NBA. Nothing would make me happier than to see them go back to the tape delay days where they struggled to get TV time. The college game I’m looking forward to is the Duke/Ohio State game on the 29th.
You’re right Harv. Finding a good SF possibly could’ve put those teams over the top. I did like when they went big with Nance Daugherty and Hot Rod, but a solid SF would’ve been huge.
I have a trial separation with the NBA, which makes me sad. But I am looking forward to another date tonight with a cute younger version. I hope the NBA knows what it’s doing because I might not want to take her back…
