Taking a Newspaper to the Nose of the Cleveland Browns
October 16, 2011On the Bright Side, The Browns Defense

“Can the Bengals sustain this through the entire season? This may not be the popular answer, but yes. It’s going to be awfully tough for Andy Dalton to win in Pittsburgh or Baltimore, but the Bengals have the pieces and the opportunities to keep winning enough to, at minimum, keep things interesting through Thanksgiving. This defense isn’t going to finish in its current spot at No. 1, but it’s experienced and very well-coached. Why can’t these Bengals beat the likes of the Colts, Seahawks and Titans? stay tuned?” [Jackson/FSO]

“The Browns really miss Brad Seely. After having one of the better special teams in the NFL the past two years under Seely, the Browns were really exposed against the Raiders. Seely was the Browns assistant head coach/special teams coach with the Browns under Eric Mangini. He left during the off-season to join the 49ers and Jim Harbaugh. It is of little surprise the 49ers have one of the best special teams in the NFL on their way to a 5-1 record.” [DK/The OBR]

“On a smaller scale it looks like another decision they are pondering is if infielder Jason Donald could be an option in the outfield. They are experimented with him some in the outfield this fall in Instructional League games, and in fact had him play center field. On Wednesday he worked out in the outfield during morning practice and then played with the Parallel League team in the afternoon as the starting centerfielder. He did not bat as he only played the outfield (one of the liberties of Instructional League) and made a few nice plays going to his right and left.
It was but one game and one view of Donald’s play in the outfield, but he looked like a natural out there. He will not be looked at as an everyday option in the outfield, but if he can play there from time to time it would create more versatility for manager Manny Acta to get his productive bat into the lineup more often. With such a left-handed heavy lineup, especially in the outfield, getting his bat into the lineup from time to time in the outfield will only help the team and also help him get more playing time. A win-win for everyone.” [Tony/Indians Prospect Insider]

Hadn’t seen the Harbaugh – Schwartz incident, so I looked it up on YouTube on my iPhone. I typed “Harbaugh Schwartz” in the search window, and as I finished “Harbaugh”, AutoCorrect gave me “garbage” as an alternative. Coincidence? I think not.
When’s Spring Training start?
Saw the post game interviews from Schwartz and Harbaugh last night. It’s my opinion that Harbaugh was being quite the a-hole (“guess I shook his hand too hard”). It was clear that Harbaugh gave him a little shove after the hand shake then said something to Schwartz as he walked away. Your team just won a big game…show a little class.
BTW, I can’t imagine a worse weekend for the Browns’ future… Cincinnati, Baltimore, and Pittsburgh all won. So did Atlanta, and as we all know every Atlanta win costs us a few spots in next year’s draft. I’m ticked off today, but don’t worry I’ll be back to my usual chipper self on Sunday when I realize that the Browns are only 2-3 right now… could be a lot worse.
@Pat – the sweet serenity of a rational opinion. Thank you, sir
the incident involving Jim Harbaugh and Jim Schwartz
I think both of these guys are jackasses. Bad enough that 90 percent of players are posing and preening after a first down run, catch, sack, tackle…you name it. Now a coach is pulling up his shirt and running around like hes got fire ants in his shorts. And all this after a early season win against a team who was winless a few years ago. What will he do if they win a game thats actually important? Oh wait, I know, he’s a “fiery” coach. “He wears his emotions on his sleeve”. Whatever. Act like a professional, if you can stand it. And Schwartz, acting all offended by an “obsenity”. How many times did we have to see his “M F” blast in slow motion as HE came across the field after a lions win a few weeks back. What a joke. Hopefully, neither one of these jerks make the postseason.
