Attention Cleveland Browns Front Office…
September 28, 2011While We’re Waiting… Fan Behavior, Cavaliers in Action and Another Side of Payton
September 29, 2011Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Cleveland Browns have agreed to a three-year contract extension with veteran linebacker Chris Gocong that could pay him up to $16.8 million. There is presently no word on guaranteed figures or any confirmation by the team.
This said, the Browns continue to allocate available funds to players who they feel will be a part of their continued progression. Recall, the Browns traded next to nothing to acquire Gocong’s services (along with those of Sheldon Brown) just a little over one year ago.
The world continues to await any additional discussion with running back Peyton Hillis who has reportedly been rumored to be looking at a contract extension of his own.
For now, add Gocong’s name to the list including Joe Thomas, Athyba Rubin and Evan Moore. Formal handshakes for everyone!

“Formal Handshakes” is something I could get used to seeing …
Gocong is a solid player. Great Job!
Probably not in Thomas’s or Rubin’s class, but a quality player. I would assume that in the next two drafts players will be taken in the first or second rounds at his position. But we need guys like this on the roster to smooth the transition to a potential first rounder and then to provide depth. With the extra cap space in this CBA, these are the kind of mid-level guys that good organizations should try to keep around.
that contract better be laced with performance incentives. He is not worth that much straight up. Thats not me saying he isnt valuable, just not THAT valuable without incentives. Im personally wishing him all the success on the field he can produce for us.
Overall, another small step in the right direction. I love this new FO philosophy. Refreshing.
For full disclosure:
“The trade sending Sheldon Brown & Chris Gocong to the Cleveland Browns is official. The Eagles will reportedly receive the Browns’ 4th & 5th round picks in 2010 plus LB Alex Hall. The picks received are #105 and #137 overall.”
Alex Hall has played at times for Arizona and the Giants but nothing significant.
Hence “next to nothing.”
