@5,6. I dont think you guys qualify as GMs. Let it ride.
I agree you can’t judge now but just exactly how many of these “wait and see” drafts have worked out in Cleveland? For me this was a rookie GMs draft. Only hope now are some trades but I wouldn’t want to hold my breath.
I have to admit… I was steaming about that Harper trade for 2 future SECOND ROUND picks. I thought Justin Harper was a steal at that point of the draft… I think the guy’s floor is Channing Frye, and his ceiling is higher. But no, instead of drafting players who fit into our plans in the near future, we are trading those players for other players who will fit into our plans in… 2015? 2016? If they even pan out as second round picks? Awesome. The only thing I can figure out here is that the owners/GMs really expect a lockout this season, thinking that this draft won’t get to play much in this upcoming season anyway.
Uhm, no offense but IMO Irving was it for this draft.
Honestly who else were you looking to get…and for what?
A playoff run? Why? To rise to the middle of the pack and out of the lottery? No thanks.
We could have traded the 4, 32 and 54 for a bag of wheat and been perfect. Those picks were meaningless and other GM’s knew it.
I’ll gladly take Irving, package JJ, Baron and Tawn mid-year for future picks and a mid- veteran F/C and look towards next years lottery.
@christopher – just to use the #32 to have at least what could become a capable wing player. we need to play guys at SG and SF afterall. i guess we can put Baron at SG and Eyenga at SF, but I would have preferred having a guy like Honeycutt as an option too. he wouldn’t have helped much for the record next year (rookies tend to make mistakes afterall), but he could have become a depth-wing moving forward. no worries though.
my biggest problem with the glut of PFs is that there are alot of teams with a glut of PFs right now and not that many teams that are PF needy. therefore, those assets are a bit undervalued from what they could be.
for instance, if you are a team, do you make a trade for JJ knowing that Utah is likely to unload Millsap and/or Jefferson?
@christopher – but we’re talking about guys who can develop into solid role players… we’re not talking about guys who are going to get the Cavs into the playoffs next season. Why not draft a guy at #32 who has good potential to contribute 2-3 years down the line? I think the Dallas Mavericks proved that role players are vital alongside your stars.
