NFL Draft: Heckert Keeps Browns’ Strategy a Mystery
April 21, 2011Cleveland’s Rotation: Deep Enough to Dream
April 21, 2011That’s what I tweeted at 9:19 PM EST last night while watching the Tribe game with all my closest Twitter friends. Much to my surprise everyone responded exactly as I hoped. People were giving me non-sarcastic, non-snarky things that they actually liked. From Twix bars, bubble baths, lifting weights, and puppies all the way to various parts of the female anatomy including the “small of a woman’s back” came flooding in. People listed alcohol, restaurants, Indians players, celebrities and music that they really like. I didn’t actually expect it to work or anything, but it just seemed like everyone on Twitter was overly negative as the Indians were being perfect-gamed by the Royals’ scraggly bearded Luke Hochevar. Then magic. At 9:27 PM a mere eight minutes after my first tweet and with the positive vibes still flowing on my feed, Michael Brantley singled to center field.
I don’t actually believe in magic. More than likely it was just the law of averages working. The Indians aren’t an all-time offensive team, but they are too good and too diverse a lineup to allow Luke Hochevar to no-hit them. Similarly, Hochevar is a 27-year-old with an ERA that seems quite natural around five. Those two facts converged as the Indians eventually broke through the wall, which they did in the top of the 6th inning last night.
As most of you know from my recent posts around here, the negativity is something that has been getting to me. It is something that I am pretty actively campaigning against in my life including in social media when possible. It was really nice to see all those really positive tweets come through last night. Then, to have that reinforced with success on the field – even if there is no true cosmic connection between the two – is really awesome.
It sure helps the tone of the fans of Cleveland sports when the teams are participating in our happiness by winning games. It isn’t a necessity though. I found that a lot of Cavs fans were very positive when they could be this season. Maybe we are turning a corner from feeling cursed all the time to just hoping for the best and rooting for the unlikely. In my lifetime, I don’t know if we’ve tried it. It has to be better than what we have been doing.
So, the #PositiveVibes thread won’t be brought out for every game. The only way you can even have positivity in life is to occasionally have some negativity to offset it. Still, knowing that it “worked” once is really great. It makes me feel like I have a really special bullet in my gun.

I once saw a really good documentary called “Ghostbusters 2” about this exact same thing.
#1 haaaaaaah
What is this twitter?
#3 some sort of new-fangled communicatory method for the rap-music listening teens
I bet I could name at least five or six people who didn’t reply to you only because they can’t produce anything positive.
Good stuff, Craig.
@1 – comment of the year for me thus far.
Just read “the Lost Symbol” by Dan Brown. talks about something called Noetic science that believes collective thought can affect physical happenings….hmmmm.
I Like pitchers who havent quite figured out what a balk is
at 9:21 eastern, I tweeted: Royals pitcher has a no hitter through 5.
I would argue that my tweet had just as much to do with the turn around as yours.
I wonder if any Royals blogger asked for everyone to think of something negative at that same time…
I’d be more surprised that there’s a Royals blogger than I would be if said blogger asked for negativity.
mmmm the small of a woman’s back….right up there with that spot on their neck directly behind their ear and travelling slowly down….
Wait, what were we talking about?
@ 9: that’s very negative.
Craig, your gun, very negative. Or maybe you were being sarcastic and I’m duped again.
@11 Scott—-
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
@Original Post
I like turtles
Law of averages? Nah. We were getting no hit and the VERY NEXT BATTER after your tweet got a hit. There’s something to it I’m 90% sure…
