While We’re Waiting… Cleveland Browns Sadness, Ted Williams, Doran Grant
January 6, 2011Cavs Swiss Cheese Gets Enjoyed By Toronto
January 6, 2011Last year after Browns season winded down, I started covering the Ohio State Buckeyes men’s basketball team. Now that the Browns are finished, Brendan P and I are going to cover the Buckeyes. Additionally this year for your college basketball pleasure, TD has been covering the Cleveland State Vikings. Provided both teams continue to play well (CSU 15-1, OSU 15-0) this should provide something to take an interest in other than the Cavaliers and Blue Jackets until pitchers and catchers report. March Madness could be a whole lot of fun from a local perspective.
And really, why not jump on the bandwagon now? The Buckeyes are 15-0 as I mentioned. They are 2-0 in the Big Ten after struggling their way to victory against Iowa last night as their football brethren won the Sugar Bowl. On Sunday at 2:00 PM, the #2 Buckeyes have another Big Ten test as they face #21 Minnesota.
On top of that, the Buckeyes have one of the most electric players in the country with Jared Sullinger, while bringing back vets Jon Diebler, David Lighty, Dallas Lauderdale and William Buford. That means that the complaints that I had a year ago about the shallow rotations and overuse of players probably won’t be an issue this year.
I know some of you mentioned the Buckeyes coverage from a year ago in the comments, so it is nice to know that at least a few of you will be along for the ride with me.

I’m all in Craig. Keep the coverage coming.
If you’re a fan of basketball you need to watch this team; they play some good ball. The rotations are a bit deeper and we have a ton of shooters (who knew Lighty could be such a good scorer?). Hope they keep this play going deep into the tourny instead of the letdown from last March.
I know this is like dropping a turd in the punch bowl, but…
Nice magazine cover. And we wonder how these kids’ egos get cranked up to 11.
That being said, it’s good to see you guys branching out. This Buckeye hoops team is good…apparently. It’s pretty funny actually. Living in Columbus, OSU football could be playing in the Drano Toilet Bowl and OSU hoops could be #1 in the known universe, and football would still get top billing.
I’ll certainly be following along. Like Kevin I’m down in Columbus and it’s an absolutely silent basketball town. It’s incredible, actually.
Vikings look great also. Coaching up there is stellar and the heart of the team makes them a ton of fun to watch. If they start beating some teams outside of “mid-major” label with anything approaching consistency (and all indications say they can) we should be able to enjoy following their success throughout the season. Now if only they had more games on tv…
I agree with 6thCity, I go to OSU and its surprising how little people talk about basketball down here, our team is amazing and im excited for hopefully a deep run in the tournament this spring
I’m all in!! It should be a great Big 10 regular season, with other good teams, including Purdue, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Michigan State giving the Bucs a run for the title. Any Big 10 team is a threat, as Iowa proved, and Ohio State will be battle-tested by the time the big dance comes in March.
Go Bucs!!
Thanks Craig, look forward to tracking the OSU bball squad – is the one hopeful sporting light in the dark winter of Cleveland/Ohio athletics.
@Cbus – not sure I understand your beef w/ the magazine cover. It’s just Sullenger in a basketball uniform holding a ball…not like he’s being strung up on a cross or overlayed with “The Chosen One”. And it’s probably literally true that he was “The Nation’s Best Big Man”. Either way, the guys a fun player to watch, and much credit to Matta for keeping him in Ohio
