Who had July 29th in their Pronk shoulder injury office pool? “Travis Hafner was scratched from tonight’s lineup with … say it with me… right shoulder soreness. This is the first time this season that the Indians have announced that the shoulder is bothering Hafner. It’s doubtful that it’s actually the first time it’s bothered him, though. We’ve already seen how much Hafner has altered his swing to account for the shoulder. Apparently, last Friday’s game against the Rays, twice delayed and then restarted because of rain, exacerbated the issue. Does not look like this shoulder thing is going away, and that, of course, only makes a bad contract look worse.” [CastroTurf]

Joe Posnanski simply cannot stop pumping out amazing Cleveland-based discourse [Joe Posnanski]

One…more….day….”No quarterback controversy, no Jamal Lewis and a coordinator who’s no longer a rookie instantly mean this offense is better. The growth of Massaquoi and Robiskie should be noticeable, too. But there are still questions about the overall talent and depth level, about who really scares any AFC North defense and about the quarterback position in general. Keeping defenses guessing means the Browns will have to run it effectively and in a variety of ways, and throw it against eight-man fronts. Time will tell, but expect a better offense than last year’s version. Just don’t expect it to crack the NFL’s top 20.” [Zac Jackson/The OBR]

Not exactly Browns related, but it should be. This app is going to be must-have anywhere it’s available. Get on that, Mike. [First Cuts]

I think Delhomme is going to love the average starting field position Cribbs gets him. As long as Josh is returning kicks, the Browns offense just needs to be adequate.
I completely disagree about Posnanski. It’s great to have a national figure with a deep connection to Cleveland, but what is this, his 19th consecutive article about Cleveland’s multiethnic blue-collar charming incompetence?
At least Hafner’s only due $13 million in both 2011 and 2012. I mean, he could be due $15 million in each of those years, right? Even based-on how good he was playing when he was given this contract, did $13 million a year seem like a good idea?
Robbie,
I think you may have forgotten how good of a hitter he was, so the answer to your question is yes. Based on production at least.
If someone knew something about an injury or PEDs, however, than probably not.
Hafer’s back used to be as wide as a Box truck.. Now seeing him from behind in the on deck circle he looks like a 13 year old girl… sad. Can somebody please give him PED’s again.
Joey Graham agreed on contract with Cavs
So…with Hafner and Sizemore out and Peralta now gone, the Indians really are down to one starter of those who also started in the 2007 ALCS (not including pitchers). Still, the Red Sox are fielding only two starters right now from that series (if you don’t count V. Mart) due to the injuries to Ellsbury, Lowell and Pedroia.
