Maurice Clarett Could Get Released Today
April 7, 2010While We’re Waiting… Browns Linebackers, Horizon League Payout and LeBron’s MVP Case
April 8, 2010A little over one month ago, the Cleveland Cavaliers set a Guiness World Record for having the most people in an identical-colored fleece blanket in one place at the same time. And as of yesterday evening, that record is no longer theirs.
Since those major markets never get enough, the city of Los Angeles packed more than 40,000 people into Angel Stadium last night, effectively shattering the record that was previously set by Cavaliers fans. Given that Quicken Loans Arena only seats a bit over 20,000 people, the record was bound to be broken eventually – though one cannot imagine that it would have only survived three days into the baseball season.
If there is any consolation, the Minnesota Twins beat the Angels 5-3, showing that karma is in fact nothing to play with. Also a consolation is that all of the Cavaliers received custom Snuggies of their own and that the photo of Anderson Varejao wearing his will live on forever.

The Angels may have broken the record, but they lose major points for lack of creativity and originality. I’m glad the Twins beat them.
I live in Orange County and when I heard about this yesterday morning I was all geared up to go to the game and try to remove the snuggies from as many people as possible to preserve the record for the city of Cleveland.
Unfortunately my wife did not approve of said action.
Your move, Browns.
Sadness occurs here. So much sadness.
are there bigger venues than say OSU or UM? 110,000 people in snuggies would be an interesting sight…
@ DK – UM is the largest stadium (though with the recent renovations I think PSU is largest right now). Moving to bigger venues, I think the Indy 500 and Daytona seat something like 250,000.
One title I’m proud Cleveland gave up!
LET US WIN SOMETHING JUST ONCE ::Sob::
@Denny – wow…not being a Nascar fan, I had no idea that many people are capable of cramming into a venue..
WAIT, so you believe in karma when it comes to a corporate-manufactured world record, but not when it comes to Chief Wahoo?
Just want to make sure I have this straight.
😉
Yea, DK – I’m not a nascar fan at all. But, I’m pretty sure those two venues are absurdly big like that.
@Denny – thats insane…I’ve never really given it that much thought, but I’ve driven by Daytona, Charlotte, etc…and they are quite mammoth…just wonder if there are soccer venues in the world that might be as big…

Looks like the biggest in the US is beaver stadium where Penn State plays…
I doubt the North Koreans will be busting out 150,000 snuggies anytime soon.
The Drive, The Shot, The Fumble, RR88, ’97 WS, Snuggie Loss… Sigh…
with temporarily infield seating Indianapolis speedway reaches a capacity of 400,000 for certain events, otherwise permanent seating there is 257k..also daytona seats around 168k
Does WFNY have any plans to distribute snuggies and attempt to break the record for most blog comments written by people wearing snuggies?
JK, I don’t know if you were informed, but the historical documentary “Hot Tub Time Machine” cleared up that the The Drive never in fact happened.
@ Denny – Most NASCAR fans have trouble wearing t-shirts with sleeves. You think anyone will be able to organize a couple hundred thousand of them to wear BLANKETS with sleeves?
How will anyone be able to show off their awesome Dale Jr. tats?
p.s. I don’t hate NASCAR or its fans, I just think their easy targets.
Further consolation, Cavs fans were the largest group at a Basketball game wearing Snuggies! They can’t deny us of that achievement, Yet!
@ Alexander – yes. INDIMIDATOR SLEEVELESS SNUGGIE AFTERNOON SPONSORED BY BUSCH LIGHT CAMOUFLAGE CANS GO!
The above post is why I have a man crush on denny
@Denny – you sir, have just come up with a million dollar idea. We shouldn’t be posting this on the internet, we should be taking it to the patent office (or something)
That pic looks like a convocation of people who will one day be severely punished.
Sleeveless snuggies a.k.a. a bigger bib? 😉
I’ve shared Cavs season tickets for decades and I have to say this was the stupidest, most minor-league promotion. I’ve seen at a Cavs game. The snuggy night is something I would expect to see at a BayHawks game, or the Captains. The Caps are actually edgier — last season they commemorated the “nickel beer night” fiasco at Cleveland Stadium!
Unrelated topic, but how bout ‘Tawn ending Bosh’s season with one fell swoop of his elbow? Really puts things in perspective for ya… think how easily that could happen to LeBron, especially if he/Mr. Potato Head insist on sticking him out there for 35-40 minutes a night the last few games here. Ugh.
(sob) I feel so used (sob, weep)
