Delonte for Captain Jack: “Cleveland continues to show the most trade interest in Golden State’s Stephen Jackson, sources say. Yet we still await a firm signal that a deal is imminent…If/when the Cavs and Warriors do reach that point, you can almost count on Delonte West’s inclusion in the deal. In spite of the considerable off-court tumult in West’s life already this season, I’m told Golden State is not averse to taking him in a Jack deal. Especially not when West’s $4.5 million salary in 2010-11 can be bought out for $500,000 as long as he’s waived by Aug. 2, 2010.” [Marc Stein/Weekend Dime ESPN]

Browns are providing helpful hints on how to get your seat early: “With a couple of Browns fans suggesting that their brethren hide in the concourses during kickoff, the Browns have provided a helpful set of suggestions for how to get to your seats on time. Given that seats are generally half-empty at kickoff anyway, the team apparently doesn’t want the protest to receive undue credit for keeping them that way on national television. Here’s a screen snap from a promotional mailing we got about an hour ago.” [Orange and Brown Blogs/OBR]

The protest fad is running rampant: “You know, the fans aren’t the only unhappy ones,’ said Mosley. ‘Some players are unhappy too.’ Mosley stated he wanted his protest to be as noticeable as the planned fan protests. Asked what he was going to do, he said, ‘I’m going to sit down on the bench for kickoff.’ Asked why that would be significant, he added, ‘Because I usually stand for the kickoff.’” [Vince Grzegorek/‘64 and Counting]

Jersey backlash: Every single person on the internet with an opinion and a platform weighed in on LBJ’s announcement to switch his jersey and retire #23 league wide. Jay Mariotti supports the move in honor of MJ. SBB thinks it is a publicity stunt that rings hollow. Phil Jackson approved of the idea while Stan Van Gundy thinks that LBJ’s historical prioritization is off the mark.

Chad Ford broke down the scenarios of a dream triumvirate in Miami: “I was speaking to a Heat source last week and they put forth an even more intriguing (if farfetched) scenario: Could Miami team Wade with LeBron and Chris Bosh? On the surface, the answer appears to be a resounding no. The Heat have a lot of cap space next summer but not that much cap space. But the source in Miami insisted it was possible. How? Here are three scenarios — all long shots, but plausible — that could result in a real-world Dream Team in Miami.” [Chad Ford/Espn]
…and later followed up with a post on why the economy makes this nearly impossible: “Had the cap stayed on its usual course, the Heat would’ve been $31 to $35 million under with Dwyane Wade’s cap hold on the books (meaning they could’ve signed two max players in addition to Wade). The Knicks and Nets would’ve been $35 to $40 million under — enough cap room to sign two superstars. And even the Cavs would’ve had the room to lure another big-time free agent to play alongside LeBron. [Chad Ford/Espn]

The Ravens are banged up and have a number of key players questionable for Monday. Here is an update on the most recent injury developments in practice this week. [Aaron Wilson/National Football Post]

Jaws, who will be attending the Cavs game tonight to watch an exciting Cleveland sports team, reiterates that it does not matter who the Browns put under center: “It’s not going to make a whole lot of difference who you put back there right now,’ said Jaworski, who’s studied coaching tapes of six of the Browns’ eight games in preparation for Monday night’s Browns-Ravens rematch. ‘The components aren’t in place for a quarterback to flourish. It’s a slow, plodding offense. There’s no separation from the receivers. You’re throwing into tight windows all day. It’s not an explosive group by any means…You need someone in the backfield that’s more explosive.’” [Mary Kay Cabot/Plain Dealer]

Not sure what I think about giving up on D West….Yet this maybe the best thing for this team in the long run. As much as they say they care about Delonte, you just know it is got to be a major distraction.
Let’s just hope if this play out, that Captain Jack doesn’t create another type of distraction!
that’s my worry, that we would be trading one distraction for another.
But I don’t really know too much about Jackson.
I do know that Delonte has a lot of friends on the Cavs now and I don’t know how they would feel about trading him away.
i would think that wait until west nov 20 court date. from what im hearing he might be going into in-house rehab to get himself stable. i am hearing it might be part of the plea bargon. he they send him away for 6 months or longer i can see the cavs making a move. but i dont neccessarly think they are giving up on him. If GS waives him the Cavs could always re-sign him for next year
The Delonte stuff makes me profoundly sad. And torn, because I think including him in a trade to GS for the Cap’n would be a good move for the team, at least this year. And since this year may be all we’ve got, I think the Cavs have to do whatever it takes to add more depth.
As for Miami adding three concurrently running max deals- isn’t this the same Miami team that forced the front office and coaching staff to all take significant pay cuts last summer just so they could put a team on the floor? I think Chad Ford is getting too excited about free agency.
Oh god, I agree with a Van Gundy. Jordan’s # should not be retired league-wide.
There’s ZERO percent chance the Cavs would move Delonte for a cancerous Stephen Jackson, pleeze. Would you guys pleeze quit stuffing every Jackon rumor in this space? Yesterday I had to read people tearing down Z after two weeks with that Jackson rumor. Give Z a few weeks to adjust to coming of the bench after 12 years will ya? He’ll be fine, and an asset and matchup issue at that.
OBSERVE what Jaws said about BQ; let the know-nothings take personal shots at his “aura”.
IT’S OUR INTERNET WE WILL DO WHAT WE WANT WITH IT!!!
the problem i have w/ that trade is this….both players have baggage..BUT Delonte’s teammates like him…thats the difference here…in Golden State, alot of SJAX’s teammates cant stand him and have publically stated they want him traded …i personally think the cavs are handling delonte fine and are playing pretty great w/o him.. please leave this cancerous a-hole form GState outta our fine city
LeBron changing his number has nothing to do with honoring MJ.
He realizes he made a marketing mistake, and the honoring MJ nonsense is just political cover to do what’s best for LeBron.
Isis, I usually don’t call you out. But this is ridiculous. Stephen Jackson will undoubtedly be a Cavalier. He’s more like a benign tumor. D-West’s is potentially malignant.
And Tom, the only reason that his teammates whispered they can’t stand him is because he has been demanding a trade for 3 months.
I just hope we don’t give up Hickson in the process.
Not Delonte 🙁
I normally stay out of the Isis discussions because I rarely have facts or evidence to back my disagreement/hatred for his posts. But finally I can say this: Isis, you did not HAVE to read anything about Z or the potential trade for SJax – you CHOSE to. Just like to you chose to post about it, just like you choose to post every other unbased, argument provoking thought that runs through your head. I love this website to the point that I think I officially spend more on it than I do working while at the office. I don’t agree with everything they write, I don’t like every article they post. And you know what I do, I either a)don’t read the article, b)read the article because I like hearing differing opinions but reserve my opinions to myself, or c)read the article and post my opinion in a thoughtful, and respectful (and sometimes [hopefully] funny) manner that evokes thought and discussion, not anger. Much like Brad on the Ruins, I am like a balloon filling with air that you have caused to stretch past the point of popping. I know you probably won’t read this because all you do is post and then run, since you have no desire to read other people’s opinions. But if you do, I implore you give it a rest. The Cavs are the one thing we Clevelanders have to enjoy right now, and we will read every article we can about them to forget about our other 2 “pro” teams. If you want to post your opinion, just think before you start typing. Don’t attack the people that report the news (or potential news), especially those who do it with our best interest in mind. Go over to that other four letter website and attack their anti-Cleveland slant…and then stay there.
Sorry to everyone else who sat thru this rant. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming.
/2 cents’ed
cent 3 – please dont trade delonte. and this is coming from someone who is open to trading z
JNeids = Balloon Boy!!!
JNeids= awesome. So we all sit here and wait patiently for Z to find a shot he seems to have lost but immediately dismiss the other teams we love who are currently rebuilding? Ya that’s not contradicting yourself or anything.
balloon boy always makes me think of that episode of seinfeld, and specifically the scene in the diner when jerry and elaine meet his dad, and he’s telling the story about his son, and the dad and elaine starting crying and take napkins to dry their eyes, and jerry uses the napkin elaine hands him to wipe his mouth. great scene
If you think Danny Ferry is going to trade one of his best friends in his last year in the league and his last shot at a title you are crazy.
The only way Z or West goes anywhere is if the Cavs have some kind of under the table agreement that they will be bought out and can return to the roster this year.
See tonight with the Jazz in town why those under the table agreements are not really the best idea…
Ben, if Z gets moved to GW, there is no way they don’t waive him before the deadline and buy him out.
They don’t want him. They want to the contract. And obviously Z would understand and resign.
Z will be traded to Golden State for Stephen Jackson and X (Turiaf?)
I feel very bad for Delonte. But, honestly, I’d prefer to ship him and Boobie for S-Jax and save Z’s contract for deadline time.
Quick poll: who’s less aesthetically pleasing?
Look at that mug shot juxtaposition above…
ever since potential z trade talks started, ive been wondering: can a guaranteed buyout be a part of a deal? for example, can ferry say that we will only agree to trade z if that team agrees to buy him out? or is that not allowed to be written into the deal?
@JNeids
You can’t write that into the deal. It’s illegal. However, many teams do a *wink wink* type of deal where they secretly agree to buy out the player without explicitly writing it down. Consequently, this means that Golden State could potentially keep Z and not buy him out if we were to make a trade with them. That would be a jerk thing to do (and Ferry would never do business with them again), but it’s possible.
i see said the blind man. thank you
