Did LeBron bring this on himself? “The Cavs made a splash this summer by trading for Shaq. But from the perspective of keeping James around, it would’ve arguably been more important for Cleveland to sign a free agent like Artest, Ariza, or even Charlie Villanueva. Supposedly, James recruited Artest and Ariza, but confusion arose when the subject came up of whether or not LeBron would be around past 2010. No one’s entirely sure what happened, but for what it’s worth, James’s camp eventually had to come out and deny he’d already decided to stay in Cleveland — without somehow making it sound like he’d decided to leave.” [Bethlehem Shoals/The Baseline]

Those of you that were looking at Dahntay Jones for his defense will be able to watch him when we face the Pacers this season. Four years, $11 million. [ESPN] Oh, and Dallas acquired Shawn Marion for Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Antoine Wright. In other news, Jerry Stackhouse, Devean George and Antoine Wright are all still in the NBA and apparently have trade value. [ESPN]

Following up on yesterday’s Browns post: “It might be harsh to punish Steptoe for being put in a position that he never should’ve been in, but I’m too turned off to give him another serious look. With more talent in front of him this year, I don’t expect Steptoe to be on the roster this season.” [Dawgs by Nature]

Getcha captains ready: “Safety Kurt Coleman, defensive tackle Doug Worthington and tight end Jake Ballard, all seniors, were announced today as the representatives for the Buckeyes at the Big Ten media days on July 27 and 28 in Chicago. And I’m guessing those will be three of your four captains for Ohio State in the fall.” [Doug Lesmerises/Plain Dealer]

ah, morning funnies
I think J-Stack to the Grizz is a good pick up for them. He’s a vet (someone they need) and he can still play. He’ll help the youngsters that Mamphis is comprised of (Gay, Mayo, Conley, Gasol, Arthurs, Thabeet) out with a type of player who not only plays but is the one who can be a on the court coach.
C’mon, you’re talking about Memphis – this was actually a four-team trade that allowed Memphis to receive cash in return as well to turn-around and buyout Stackhouse. The thing for us to take notice is that Orlando now has a $7 million trade exception coming out of it, and Toronto was able to preserve their mid-level exception due to making this a sign-and-trade of Turkoglu.
And I don’t think that is Randy’s main residence. Doesn’t he live in New York somewhere?
That’s the residence of the late Mr. Lerner, but his surviving wife does live there. He had that commissioned before he knew of his brain cancer.
Remember, Mr. Lerner was one of the richest men in the nation/world at the time. The house is designed to withstand RPG attacks from what I understand.
No Tribe game open thread?
supposedly this is randy’s house:
