Cleveland Indians Recap 2008 Part 3 – Where Do We Go From Here?
October 3, 2008Open Thread: Buckeyes at Wisconsin Badgers
October 4, 2008Picks of the Week – October 4, 2008
Okay, here we go. This marks the start of a new era in the Gamblog. No longer will Matt pick his “lock” of the week. Instead the writers at WFNY will select the game of the week and a random prop bet to go along with it. This week his task is the OSU/Wisconsin game and a look at how the AFC North will fare versus some tough competition. For some reason he thinks his 12-3 record ATS is going to take a hit this week. And, of course, WFNY does not condone gambling of any kind. This is purely for entertainment purposes. With that said…
Ohio State Buckeyes (-1.5) at Wisconsin Badgers
First things first, this week is the Buckeyes first test since USC and we all know what happened in that game. I predicted USC to win by 12, and they won by 32. We have all heard the stats on Wisconsin all week. They’ have won 27 of their last 28 home games; are 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings versus Ohio State; are coming off a bad loss to a bad Michigan team, etc, etc…
All the signs point to Wisconsin beating Ohio State in a close one. And even if Ohio State were to squeak out a victory, they are O-4 ATS this season. Now, I know what you’re thinking. The spread is only a measly 1.5 points, so if OSU can find a way to win, they will most likely cover the spread. Well, I wouldn’t be so fast to jump to that conclusion. Many of games are decided by that so called meaningless 1-point margin… but not this one. Ohio State will jump out to an early lead and hold on for dear life through three quarters, only to pull away at the end by 10 points. Take the Buckeyes, give the points, and ride TP (Terrelle Pyror) all the way to the Rose Bowl.
Prediction: Buckeyes 27, Badgers 17

Combined wins for the AFC North: 1
Now onto an AFC North proposition bet that I normally wouldn’t recommend touching with a ten foot pole. But this week the AFC North has drawn a ridiculously tough schedule: Ravens vs the 4-0 Titans, the banged up Steelers in Jacksonville to face the Jaguars, and the Bungals traveling to Dallas to play the saviors of the world in the Cowboys.
Flacco’s luck ran out when the Steelers beat them last week. The Jaguars will beat the Steelers at their own game, and Chad Johnson does not get close to kissing the star unless he is upended at mid-field. The AFC north goes 0-3 this week as you pass go and collect your $200. Figuratively speaking of course, as this Gamblog is merely for recreational reading.
Enjoy the weekend, it’s sure to be an interesting one… and remember the Browns can’t lose so you don’t have to dread that Monday morning water cooler conversation this week.

Don’t the Browns win by not playing/losing? In that case you’d have to take the over since it starts as a push…
Depends on who gets hurt during intrasquads this week…
AFC North- 1-2 this week
