The Browns Will Win If…
October 24, 2008A Little Help From Our Friends…
October 24, 2008I owe Matt and the readers of WFNY a sincere apology as I was unable to post last week’s GAMBLOG before Browns kickoff. As luck would have it, he went 2-0 with his selections and moved his overall ATS record to 15-5. Let’s hope that he can keep it all going this week as we roll into a little mix of college football and the pros, while steering clear of the Browns. As always, this is for recreational purposes only! On to the goods…
**
Well my record of 13-5 was compromised last week when my entry didn’t get posted before the Browns game. I picked the Browns to keep it close and cover the spread and for Phil Dawson to make one and miss one field goal which is exactly how it played out.
While I’m not usually one to toot my own, I am going to take credit for the two wins and artificially inflate my record to 15-5. Besides, how can I not take credit for redeeming myself after picking the Browns to get shellacked against the Giants? Anyway, moving on to this week…
PSU (-2.5) at Ohio State
I am going to do something very bold and take the Buckeyes straight up. That’s right. I’m throwing the points out the window because I don’t think a team of Ohio State’s caliber needs to be given points at HOME versus a rival they have owned for the most part in recent times. I think we match up with them at every position and will exploit their weaknesses.
For the record, I don’t know what those weaknesses are, but I’m betting Jim Tressel does. It may not be pretty, but I’m confident we pull out the victory. I guess I’m actually a little more than confident because I believe we will by 10+. But I’m not completely crazy, I’m not going to give any points. TP and BWells ride the red sea to victory…hey that even rhymes. (Editor’s note: The money line is currently +113)
Now onto a challenging prop bet…
Mike Singletary wins for the rest of the season: over/under 2.5.
First of all, how can I even be sure that the 49ers give Singletary the rest of the season? Well, I guess when is the last time you saw an interim head coach lose his job? Maybe never, but in this day in age anything is possible. So assuming he coaches the remaining 9 games, can he win one third of them?
While he does get two shots at St Louis, he also has to play Dallas, Buffalo, and Washington. I think there is a possibility they beat St Louis once, either Seattle or Arizona, and then just have to beat the Jets or the Dolphins; completely doable.
That being said, their QB looks like a contestant from the Price is Right that just won the opportunity to run the 49ers offense for the year. I can’t put my money on JT O’Sullivan even if his coach was the second best linebacker from my childhood. I think the 49ers go 2-7, and flirt with victory in 2 of those losses, but ultimately come up short. As an aside, I’m waiting for the next prop bet to be how many games can Rob Chudzinski and Brady Quinn win the rest of the season. Over/under 0.5?
